NPC Creation

I was thinking it would be cool if players at a certain point would be allowed to create their own NPC. This could be done so the NPC is almost like an alt which needs to be leveld, classes must be chosen etc. However if simply having an NPC follow you around and tank everything it would take away a bit of the challenge away, so they could have a set area of activity (guild base, freehold patrol etc.) What do you guys think ?

  • Sounds great I always enjoyed customizing non-playable NPC's

  • I'd just like a pool of randomly generated npcs that people could 'hire' to do things like manage the store, act as butler in house (mostly rp), or fill up the guild halls or castles as fake 'guild members'

More npcs that act as combatants is good because it weakens zerging organically. More targets that are hard to distinguish from players and can sort of fight is a great defensive advantage to negate huge numbers.

Hello like me pleas me freands.
  • nice edition brother.
  • Well i love character creation. Sometimes i take 2 hours just to create 1 char if the editor ist good and its always again fun. So i would like the idea a lot but i think it would be hard to integrate if these npc's can escort you.

But something like a butler or a personal bard xD that would be awesome.

Hiring (creating ) and customizing NPC sounds like a brilliant Idea for non adventure pvp roles. Such as Tavern roles Market Merchant and such.

Giving the player the ability to customize his NPC would offer some uniqueness to the game and create NPC that match the theme of their tavern and such.

Seeing the same generic NPC over and over gets boring :)

  • I like this idea a lot, especially for the NPCs we might be able to have on our freehold. To be able to choose the race of the guard and even the look, and give them gear so you can outfit them to fit the rest of the style of your freehold really is a must.

If we are going to spend hundreds of hours building and furnishing our housing, then being able to customise the NPCs who will live there is a no brainer.
  • And you can bet these are all options that are being thought of for the store. Want to customize your guards? Our Autumn Guard Pack is now available for 250 embers for the next month only. Buy now. Why would they give you abilities to customize when they can charge you?
  • Kind of an aside, but I think it would great if they held a contest where we could name a npc and describe their appearance etc., and the winner will have theirs put into the game somewhere.

Yeah see this is one of the reasons I do not like the idea of Micro-Transaction Cosmetic shops for real cash.

The rest covered in spoiler alert, a bit off topic but valid in response.
These are things that players should be able to craft and generate in game to boost economy.
This after all this is a Subscription game that we are paying to play not a FTP game where they need to make money off of micro-transactions.
I am worried about another SWTOR CossPay vrs GamePlay, where money made is not put back into making the game better but rather just keep pumping out cosmetics to be bought in the cash shop.
The whole reason some people are ok with the cash shop for just cosmetics is they believe that the cash shop would not take away from what is available in game and be used to further develop the game.  Further develop the game can be perceived many ways, is it to make the game better for the players or to just make more money for the company, their needs to be a balance.
    It would require:
    • The ability to customize our NPC, Housing, Taverns; in the Cash Shop they should have already given us that ability in the game as well.
    • The appeal of in Game Options to stay on par or exceed the Cash Shop throughout the games life, the only difference would be the cash shop items would be unique not better.
    • As they develop new  Cash Shop Items they should also be Developing new In Game items of equal or greater value and appeal
    • The development of the game play should always be > than the development in game cosmetics > than the development of cash shop cosmetics.

If they stick to this I could learn to be ok with it. But that will have to be earned, to undo the years of misuse of cash shops over the years in FTP games. While this isn't even a FTP game it's a subscription. In what universe did people learn to be ok with paying more after they are already paying for a service.
It would take a lot of integrity and trust earned by Intrepid for me to tolerate  Micro-Transaction existing in Subscription game. This is a possibility but it needs to be earned over time.
