AoC is VR ready?

VR gameplay is a kind of probable future for all 3D games, including MMOs. So I ask if AoC will be ready for a full VR environment play... I am just asking.

  • The main problem with using vr in an mmorpg is there is a disconnection between what your brain is telling you should happen and what is actually going on. Simply put, when you move your character in game, it tricks your brain into thinking you are moving and yet your actual body hasn't moved at all. This can be very disconcerting for a lot of people and in some cases can cause severe motion sickness.

The only games that I believe can work well with vr are racing games and space sims, because you play those games from the perspective of driving a moving vehicle rather than moving your body. Playing something like Eve online or Elite Dangerous with vr and voice commands is one of the most amazing experiences you can get.

I understand your concern but, in fact, I consider MMO games are best suited for vr glasses. Take a look at the videos:

  • VR just looks really bad in almost every game atm. Not to mention that MMO's is probably one of the last genres that is going to focus on VR.

Yes, there are people never goes along VR games:

«Count me among those women. I’m highly prone to motion sickness. Cars, planes and boats can all make me feel woozy. It can take me a day or more to fully shake the nausea, headache and drowsiness. Certain that virtual reality would also make me sick, I’ve purposefully avoided strapping on a headset.»

OK, but I think it’s VERY important to note that many people DON’T get motion sick in VR.

I also think this will end up like people who got sick in first-person games on monitors. Remember those? It was a problem until people found how to change the FOV.
Nowadays do you ever hear about them? Of course. But is not a game problem, it is a individual problem. VR sickness is real and must be compensated for. So, people with motion sickness should be far from 3D games ou VR glasses. After all, it is a human being problem with solutions like ginger, dramamine and scopolamine. : )

That movement disconnect you speak of is completely alleviated by a 3D motion platform like the Virtuix Omni. I have an HTC Vive and as long as I'm able to move around I don't have nausia/dizziness. While motion platforms are not quite out yet they are coming in the next year or so and will be out when AoC launches in 2018.

Many of us with VR headsets will be buying these motion platforms as soon as they are available as it opens up Many games for us to play with VR modded support such as Skyrim, fallout and any first person shooter.

So having VR support for an MMO would truly set this game apart from all other MMOs and would easily earn a $500 Kickstarter donation from me.

  • please dont wast time on VR!
  • I own a Vive and I can't wait for the first successful VRMMO. This game should not be made for that. A VRMMO needs all players to be in a headset. This game won't work like that. VR will either cause an unfair advantage for those in headsets, or create a disadvantage for that.
