Religion Class Factors?

Hey Guys! Another topic that I thought of when thinking about the discord list of answers the devs have given, and one of them, not sure if I remember correctly, but I think they talked about religion having an affect of class style and abilities and I wanted to jump right into it. A recent post I was looking at came up with the idea of the Moon Mage, something that you probably can't make with the class or subclass mixes. But religion? Devote yourself to a moon god/cult/totem? and boom, new changes to abilities to reflect your religion. So now I'm here wondering, what is the limit? How many gods or religions will their be and what affects should they have on classes? Personal favorites, Death God devoted assassin-mage, Fire God warrior, Light God assassin(Inquisition?). But how far will the changes go? For example, if I have a rogue, and he goes to the Light God does his entire kit change, only a couple abilities, only aesthetically? Really want to know, even if it just added new spell effects that would be pretty cool. Though knowing how many things the devs have on their plates I would guess only a few religions to start as if they changed classes radically then they would have to work on all of the different combinations, 64 of them, for each religion. Further into this though, how hard will it be to gain a religion and will it have a reputation level with that religion where you get new benefits for each tier?

Lastly though, I'm in the pre-pre-guild(xD) called Ashens, and if they have mounted combat I was thinking of making a whole cavalry squad in the guild, but if you added religion into the mix, my personal goal would make our group into mounted crusaders! Anyway, thoughts on religion? Sorry if I'm a little long winded, you should of seen some of my other posts lol.

  • Hi Greentang!

    About religion: there's 6:

I haven't seen anything in details about religion skills, you should ask it on discord if you don't get an answer here.

We have to understand that 64 class possibilities already require a special balance system, I would guess there won't be other than a few new skills from religion but augmentations(which are great in my opinion), not saying your ideas are not superb, just trying to keep both of us on the ground.
  • Considering that class augment already results in 64 unique classes, I doubt religion will affect near as much. This goes for racial augmentation as well. We know that race and religion WILL affect skills or stats, but not to what degree.
For example: we know that that fighter/mage creates a spellsword, I do not think that fighter/mage/evil religion will result in anything other than spellsword. Religions probably augment but don't affect combinations. Obviously, none of us know for sure. Just speculation.
  • Which religion will it be?
    - Faith in humanitarian concepts
    - Belief in non-existing beings
    - Faith in existing beings
Or will we have religion of each category?

There are 6 religions based off of existing deities in the Ashes of Creation universe. Religions will likely face ideals based off of their god. All religions will be based on an "existing" being I believe is what this means.
  • Yeah, I made my post long reaching because at the moment their is very little on it, thanks for discord link btw. Anyway, Totholio, sorry for the block of text as it seems you didn't see the last part where I addressed the amount of work the devs have already with the 64 classes. The reason why I wasn't on the "ground" is because this is pre-alpha and anything can change, yeah it's far fetched, but tying some type of physical value in game for players instead of just a "X light buff from light god" would help further immersion in religion. Like if you were a warrior and you wanted to be some type of crusader, even if the religion doesn't change anything, aesthetics or some type of crusader armor skin would make it seem like your playing a new class. The more diverse a class base is the better, you don't want to see carbon copies however, so probably some tweaking with armor IF they wanted to do that.

Overall just saying, I posted in design because I wanted to see the possible suggestions for different religion paths in-game. Maybe I missed the theory crafting forum if that is where I should've posted.
  • Also though, Tothlio: "We have to understand that 64 class possibilities already require a special balance system, I would guess there won’t be other than a few new skills from religion but augmentations(which are great in my opinion), not saying your ideas are not superb, just trying to keep both of us on the ground."

And maybe I'm reading this wrong or you don't know, but apologizing for maybe have being rude yet I didn't see it until that comment is kind of passive aggressive plus the whole keep you on the ground thing. It's a forum, don't call me out for being too theorizing if that is the point of the forum. But hey, maybe I'm reading it wrong, it just seemed really odd, like the whole Hi GreenTang too polite, like something a dev would say so it sounded pretentious coming from you. But what am I even talking about, I'm a nerd so social interactions are not exactly my forte lol so sorry if I'm reading this wrong.
