I think maybe you want to buy into the Alpha test phases or the Beta test phases.
You should look into picking up a package, that way you will get the most play time possible over the next two years.

The simplest answer would be yes, you could.

There is however, a whole lot of reasons why this would be a bad idea. While it would be something "Ashes of Creation" to play, it would not be giving a good first impression to people who had never experience the game before.

Most people would struggle with the "Testing Ground" concept. Let me go a step further, the majority of the community has struggled with the concept of APOC being a testing ground. They would think that APOC represents a milestone in Ashes's development, which, while yes it does represent a particular milestone, people would think it represents something near a final product. It does not.

APOC exists to test action combat, systems, connections, match making, server stability, hit scan, projectiles, the back end, a bunch of stuff, but it does not exist to represent the MMORPG. The combat in APOC is 100% Action, and not even all of the action combat that will make it to the MMORPG.

Plus, you have to factor the cost versus the results. If they had the old version up, they would be incurring costs, but getting rather irrelevant data. They have (or are) rebuilding their backend. So if they just threw the servers on they'd still be on the previous version of the backend, which would mean any data they got might be useful for some things, but not for addressing their biggest hurdle to date.

Then there is the PR nightmare that would come from it, and that would be a goat rope circus.
