Where's it landing on PvE?

Have been reading the FAQs and other posts (which really need purging because old) and still can't say whether or not the game is PvP or PvE.

To me, if a game is PvE, then it has a way to ensure you never enter PvP conflict. Like New World, if you don't flag for PvP, you cannot be attacked. aka: (Don't start sh*t, won't be sh*t) mode

Is Ashes a PvE or PvP game, according to the above definition?

    Ashes is a PVX game. Never Perma flagged and always a hint of danger. PvP can happen almost anywhere at anytime. The few exceptions being the few instanced dungeons and maybe towns depending on how the guards react.
    Most people never listen. They are just waiting on you to quit making noise so they can.

    No, Ashes is not a PvE game by that definition.

    You can always get attacked by another player at any time but you'll have the option to flag yourself as a combatant to show that you are interested in doing PvP and to reduce the death penalties.

    If someone attacks you while you are not flagged as a combatant, they gain corruption, decreasing their overall efficiency in PvP combat and the possibility of dropping equipped gear on death.
