Utility skills!

Wouldn't it be awesome to have options to expand combat, out of the combat!
For example placing traps, making caravan protectors invisible for a while, or ambushing them thanks to invisibility!
Some "relative" simple spells/skills could make combat much more worthwile, tactical and add loads of possibilitys.

I was thinking about roleplaying as a mostly regular person, and try to overcome stronger, combat focused enemys.
With a system in place like this you could sometimes win brains over brawn, but in most cases where such skills weren't properly prepared you would lose horribly!

Playing as a necromancer in GW2 i loved the sceptor which let me place debuffs on the floor (a freeze, a poison, a slow) and after cleverly luring enemys in them i would switch weapons and use ranged angainst them. Such a simple mechanic feels sooo good.

Also! Maybe larger scale skills but with little buffs/debuffs, as example changing the weather to rain, or fog. Ofc these would require a lot of preperation but the idea seems apealing to me :p

Also!2 first post on forum, so hi guys!

    First and foremost welcome :)

We'll have to see about invisibility, you could almost say its a design choice, whether stealth mechanics are a thing. To my knowledge there hasnt been confirmed any stealth skills yet (<- is this right?)
But I'd imagine traps are a thing, but mostly for sieges and larger PvP battles :) So in the preparation periode before a siege, you can place traps and prepare other defences.

I'm a tiny bit hesitant towards traps though, mostly regarding how they would be implemented/how they are obtainable. Cause if you have enough time to prepare and you could place traps whereever, every single siege is gonna be "welcome to the minefield, see the lucky ones on the otherside".

Hahaha, No I think you have a point there :p
But we could say traps are only temporary, or only work when the player that set it up is relatively close.
Either way, my biggest interest was winning without the largest or best force, instead using tacticall spells or skills.
(As i think of it probs could have used a better name though XD)
And a last small point: if dragons and other flying mounts can be used, there should probably be some way to stop them flying over walls. Would feel a bit cheap if you can only shoot them down, escpecially because they would probably be the strongest/influencial players... so maybe speed debuf in storm? or a change to get hit by lightning? XD

Flying in bad weather could be dangerous for your dragons health.
    Nice

I like the idea....not sure how lore friendly that is with any game/book version of dragons though.
    :)
Still. Nothing says AoC dragons cant be different.

Well I'd think something like Eragon has a pretty good understanding of dragons, and believe me I've read that a few times :)

In that book they often talk about how smaller/younger dragons can have major problems in storms, and theres a few time they are hit by one.

    - They are in some flatlands, they get hit by a powerful storm and it goes something like this:
<em>"Saphire get to the ground or you'll get hurt screamed Eragon [...] When she finally managed to land Eragon had to help push down her wings. [...] After that they travel slowly, having Saphire claw her way through the land."</em>

I'd do more examples but I'm to lazy ;) Basicly I think its completely fair that dragons or other mounts would have it rought in strong weather. Just like the people manning the sieges equipment might not see the castle, if its foggy or stormy.

Yeah, welcome to the family! You should check the <a href="https://discord.gg/v2Fwzaf">Discord</a> out! Many questions are answered or asked there! It's pretty busy \o/.

    - Okay, flying mounts. Are we talking about pure visuals or do they also offer other benefits? If so, I don't know what to think of them.
    - Traps, I like the idea, I like it a lot. But how will it work? Is it a certain profession you have to level up to make traps? Do you need special materials to build one? Do they have a limit? How long will they last? Are they upgradable? How large are they?
Since you're talking about GW2, do you have something in mind like the Ranger's utillity skills or something different alltogether?
    - Invisibility, I would love seeing it, part of a class exclusive one maybe.

Almost a 100% sure that @Steven has confirmed that flying mounts will only be for kings/queens and maybe mayors of larger nodes. So you could say a benefit of the position you hold... Some mounts will glide a bit though :)

I would love to have grappling hooks! Be better if its not class restricted and a item that we can craft for all to use.

Grappling hooks are nice and all, but remember the setting. This is medieval times, when we are talking grappling hooks, its heavy hooks throw over a wall and then you slowly crawl up the rope, while under heavy- and exposed fire from the enemy... But hey if thats your thing, who am I to judge? ;)

this is true, but having grappling hooks would change up sieges if you have to worry about assassins coming in behind you to kill people in side the walls
