How long do the Death Penalties last? Does the stat dampening and lower gear proficiency last until you work off the exp debt or are they on a separate timer? Do death penalties stack if you die again while under the effects of them, or do they just restart?

What factors will determine who gets to participate in castle sieges? Will it be left up to the mayor/governor of the node, or will there be systems in place to track a players progress and contribution around the node?

Also, I believe sieges are 250v250. Will there be any sort of systems in place to discourage zerging being the "best" means of reaching that content?

In New World for example, companies are basically made to spam-recruit anybody who will push influence for them so they can win a war declaration that only 50 players get to participate in. Even though 100 might have pushed the influence.

Sorry I know this question is sort of all over, but hopefully you can see what I'm getting at.

Religion stands to be a major element of the game considering there will be religious nodes. What does religion bring to the table from a gameplay aspect?
  • When the announcement for Alpha 2 eventually comes, how much lead time do you expect to give the community prior to Alpha 2 going live? Meaning, do you expect to provide 7 months, 7 weeks, or 7 days' notice (for example).
  • Will we be able to have duplicate freehold buildings? Multiple farming plots, or multiple businesses, for example.

Do rare gatherables include fighting wold bosses or other PvE content? Or even better PvP content?
  • In relation to non-combatants not being CCed, does this encompass all forms of character inhibition? Roots? Slows? Knockbacks? Pulls? I ask because there is concern that non-combatants, being immune to cc, can just use a speed boost or some other escape tools to zoom away with the attacker being unable to keep with their target at all.

  • I'm old enough to remember 2004 WoW's quest system being praised as innovative because it gave players the ability to do something when they had a limited amount of playtime available. I don't think that your ambitious world scale is antithetical to short-term gameplay, personally, but Do you have any plans for activities that can be reasonably completed with limited time investment? Say, 15-30 minutes, 30-60, 60+ without being an all day ordeal, etc.

Experience Debt and Corruption have their own separate bars like an exp bar and you need to work them off. They're not on timers. Yes, they are stacked upon death.

In regards to the new Twitter post with the farming/gathering cart.

    1. The contents shown are actually the items gathered/farmed?

    2. Can you target the carts and do you need to flag up to attack them?

    3. Does the flaging/corruption system apply to carts as well? As in if you destroy someone's cart without them fighting back the attacker gains corruption?

    4. When destroyed do carts drop 100% of their contents?

How would you incentivize people turning on to be combatant in the open world?
The way the system is now, if I want to gather rare or high tier resources or farm rare monsters, I have no incentive on being purple, I can stay green and the attacker would take a huge risk in attacking me that is turning him corrupt, being chased by green and purple players alike, more xp debt and not even being able to make it back to the city safely to deposit the loot and in case he succeeds, he then have to deal with removing the corruption. This makes it not worth for them to attack me as a green and is a waaaaay higher risk for them than it is for me to simply having less xp debt or preserving more resources in case of death. I would be actually doing them a favor in turning purple if they attack me.

If you are in the way of an organized group of players (no mattee how small or large that group is), and your presense, hinters their xp/farming per hour, one of them might kill you to remove you from the area.

The nearby players might be happy that one less person is taking up mobs or gatherable nodes. Or they might choose to kill the red player. Either way you are gone and somebody found a reason to pk you.

Somebody might plainly just not like you. That person will kill you, even if you dont want to fight back.

There are no mechanical insentives for PKing. It's not a gameplay system. There are logical or emotional reasons. Free, human interactions.

See I understand that, in a system with no punishment or drawbacks, the ugliness and selfishness of some people's character comes to the surface. But the punishing systems (aka corruption here etc..) comes to add a rational component to the emotional reasons. At a certain level of punishment, even if the person is dyiiiiing to kill you and raging inside, they might not do it for the simple reason that the consequence of that action is super punishing for him (dying to bounty hunters and green players, debuff to dmg and CC, dropping equipment, having to grind for hours to remove the corruption etc..).

I get you, some people are just like that and enjoy griefing you or killing for no reason, but I believe that is the main issue the corruption system is aiming to solve.

What I am referencing though is the other extreme, where the punishment is so harsh, and turning combatant providing no benefit (except less death penalty, which in this case will be to mobs since no sane person will make the logical decision to turn red by killing you) that no pvp will take place in the game and everyone will stay green outside of pvp events such as caravans ofc.

What I am asking is : is that the intended direction of the game ? the pvp aspect of the game mainly referencing the compulsory pvp events such as wars and caravans even if no open world pvp takes place ? or does the game want to encourage people flagging up while farming, and contesting highly sought after resources and mobs (and not just first come first serve without pvp involved)

A lot of controversy about open world PvP has been circulating lately, particularly from one Youtube video made by an individual with "Lucky" in their name. Can you elaborate on some of the solutions AoC has created to stop the griefing problems that Lineage 2 suffered from?

So you are confusing two different topics.

    One is Castle Sieges (https://ashes101.com/castlesieges.php)

    One is Node Sieges
    https://ashes101.com/nodesieges

    These are totally different

Castle Sieges are 250 vs 250. The Monarch decides whos on defense, the guild leader who drops the siege flag decides who's on offense.

Node Sieges are uncapped. Citizens are automatically registered as defenders. Everyone else can sign up for defense or offense.

    Pick a question

    1. What is the current thought on small groups (5-15) players ability to tackle endgame content like raids and pvp sieges? Will there be a robust alliance or federation system allowing many small guilds to rally under one banner for larger group content?
    2. What are your thoughts on hidden content? Most games today release with the content data mined and a meta build theorized within days if not hours. Will there be secret item drops/hidden chest rooms/lost ancient crafting methods/mysterious class trainers offering advanced skill trainings, that will provide hidden additional progression paths?
  • You mentioned in a past livestream that the top tier weapons and armor will be made in the crafting system through other players rather then drops from monsters or dungeons. How are you going to implement that? Will certain raids or monsters drop super rare ingredients? Or will players with high enough gathering skills be able to collect these components?

"Artisans within Ashes of Creation must choose a path in their artisan skill tree. This inter-dependency establishes a supply chain from raw materials to finished product.[11][12] Each stage of the chain may require caravans to transport goods from one artisan to another.[4]

    Obtaining raw materials:[13]
    Using the Gathering profession.[13]
    By killing mobs and bosses.[14][13]
    From deconstructing weapons or armor.[13]
By purchasing them from other players.[13]
Refining the raw materials with the Processing profession.[12]
Crafting the finished product using its crafting recipe.[12]
Recipes are also obtainable from boss drops.[15][12]

  • If a node that is visually influenced by once race (say Ren'kai) is destroyed, and is then rebuilt by a mostly different race (say Empyrean), will the cultural influence change, or stay the same?

    "Node redevelopment
A node that was successfully destroyed by a node siege may develop differently due to the following influences:[3][39]

    Different races becoming primary contributors.[3][39]
Design elements determined by different governments.[3][39]
Reactions and interactions with other nodes in the world.[3][39]

  • If the current corruption system doesn't deter strongly enough from player killing, what is your next step? Would you go so far as to implement safe areas, PvE or PvP servers, a flagging system like Star Wars Galaxies where non-combatants can't be attacked at all, or would you simply increase the current system's punishments?

    "Safe zones
    Jump to navigationJump to search
Players cannot PvP while inside (the footprint of)[1] a freehold (except following a successful node siege).[2][3]
Players are not able to be attacked or robbed while occupying their player stall inside the limits of a node.[4]
    "

    "PvP/PvE servers
There won't be separate roleplaying (RP) servers.[5]
There won't be separate PvE and PvP servers.[6]

  • Can a siege happen during night time in game? I'd love to see tons of spells and siege ammo flying across the battlefield through the dark.

    "Server prime-time
Objective-based PvP events such as node sieges, castle sieges, guild wars, and node wars will occur within a prime-time window somewhere between 3PM and 9PM server time. This is subject to testing.[9][10][27]

Guild wars and node wars can be declared at any time, but the objectives will only spawn during the prime-time window.[28]

"A player may choose a secondary archetype when they reach level 25.[4] The combination of primary and secondary archetypes is referred to as a class.[4][1][5]
The secondary archetype does not provide additional skills.[11]

Since Alpha 2 will be persistent until beta, how long can we expect Alpha 2 to last? Closer to 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, or longer?

    "Persistent alpha
Alpha-2 is known as the persistent alpha.[33][34] Persistent means that the Alpha-2 servers will be kept up all day and night until launch.[33]

There will be downtime for patches.[37]
There may still be character and testing wipes.[38][33]
Alpha-2 servers will become the public test servers (PTS) post-launch.[38][33]
Used to test patches and updates.
Beta-1 and Beta-2 will probably not be persistent.[33]
All servers will be wiped prior to launch.[39]

Will seasons take place across all map zones? Say it's currently the winter season, will we see snow in the desert or only in zones with a 4 season biome like the Riverlands?

"Seasons affect different zones (environments/biomes) based on their location in the world.[2][3]

Some biomes will have seasons that are less (or more) temperate. For example: Northern, Southern and Tropical regions.[4] Other biomes will have fixed climates.[5]
Biomes that are affected by seasonal cycles may experience drastic visual differences between seasons.[2]
Events may radically change the current season a zone is in, or elongate it.[6][7] This includes weather changes.[3]
There will also be magical seasons where you might be in a tropical zone and suddenly it's snowing.[4]
Items, crop cycles, buildings, and crafting mechanics might gain certain buffs or debuffs in certain seasons.[6][8][3]
Ocean and underwater areas will not have seasonal changes.[9]
