Will mobs drop gear? How will we get gear other then crafting?

"Loot tables (drop tables) of world bosses or dungeon bosses have a small RNG chance of dropping gear (completed items).[2][3] Monsters drop hunting certificates, Items and crafting materials rather than gold.[4][5]

There is a much higher chance that materials and unique recipes are dropped that can be used to craft items of equitable value.[2][6][7]
There is a small RNG chance of looting rare and legendary items or crafting materials from mobs based on the level, status and type of mob. This also applies to harvesting resources with a gathering profession.[8]
Crafted gear is the best gear in Ashes of Creation.[9]

Legendary equipment is only dropped by Legendary world bosses.[10]
Stats on dropped items will vary based on the rarity of the item.[11]
Loot tables are disabled for player controlled monsters.[12]
Experience debt decreases the drop rate percentages from monsters.[13]
Loot tables will likely not be affected by weather conditions.[14] This was previously listed as a possible effect.[15]

Can you explain if Mount Cosmetic Skins will impact Animal Husbandry?

Will you need to obtain the mount of a specific bread before applying a Cosmetic Skin?

"Mount skins can be applied to the appearance of mounts that were earned in game.[12][13][2][8] These are applicable to specific classes (tiers) of mounts.[14]
For example, the Ramstrider skin will only be applicable to the class of land mounts (tier 1), and the Nighthunter Gryphon skin is only applicable to the class of royal mounts (tier 3).[14]
Certain tier 2 mount skins (such as the Emberstorm Dragon) can be upgraded to tier 3 skins if they also apply to royal mounts.[5]

But, to answer your specific question: You have the skills of your Primary Archetype. These can then be augmented (upgraded). One of these augmentation paths is from your Secondary Archetype.

@daveywavey Caravans are more expensive, you have to pay for security as they are open for PvP.
Mules are protected by the corruption system.
Why would a group of people join together and put their stuf into a caravan instead of using each of them mules and have some bounty hunters ready to fight along the road?

Or do you expect that players will have so many valuable resources and materials that each will use several caravans?

Will magic hold a larger role than just combat? WIll it have more utility? Will a mage be able to use their magic in-place of everyday items? Lighting fires without matches, cutting rope without a knife, repairing broken or damaged items without the resources, etc.

@Roofian (question) - You can read more on castles, their functions, and their design intentions here, on the wiki!

@Vyril (question) - Steven should have addressed this topic of discussion during this month's livestream! :)

@Diamaht (question) - Please stay tuned as we will have updates on the Cleric archetype and classes very soon! :)

@Arkethos (question) - ... Dare I ask why you want to know? 🤔

@KRissCHu (question) - You can see some examples of features for the Tulnar here. Tulnar will be very customizable. I recommend checking out the character creator here for an example of what tools will be at your hands for creating a character!

@T Elf (question) - The current intention is for players to see the talents so that they can plan their choices. This is subject to testing :)

@Hjerim (question) - The game is intended to be feature-complete by Beta-1. :)

@TsT990 (question), @xillin (question) - Please stay tuned for more information regarding artisan classes as we progress further towards Alpha Two! :)

@Leiloni (question), @SneekyUU (question) - Nothing we have shown off during this current testing period is in its final form. This includes the Tulnar! The art we released were examples of what could be created with the Character Creator for the Tulnar race :)

@Zara (question) - We will have more information on this in the future as we finalize systems. Please stay tuned for more information! :)

@evilelrond (question) - Recently, Steven said... and I quote... "So what we do focus on is that crafters make the best shit. Excuse me, the best things" 😂 You can read more about that here, on the wiki!

@Azuru (question) - In the past, Steven has said: "...their cultural markers are also going to be a combination of different influences, so they're very differently constructed culture than what is found in the other eight races" You can read more about the Tulnar here, on the wiki!

@Falkath (question) - Tier 2 mounts, which include gliding mounts, are not capable of true flight by default. They will have the ability to glide. You can watch a visual example of that here!

@Izzetin (question) - Yes! You can read more about this here, on the wiki!

@Benjimimic (question) - I appreciate you not only taking the time to find your answer on the wiki but also editing your post with the answer! ♥

@Nomerbob (question) - Custom music creation (using the likes of the Music Macro Language) will not be present in the game on release. However, musical instruments will be present for role-play purposes. You can read more about this here, on the wiki!

@Bergund (question) - We would love to have all four node types available at the beginning of Alpha Two :)

@Spectorr (question) - You can read up on guild halls here, on the wiki!

@Mitchz (question) - Permanent degradation is not a planned feature at this moment. You can read more about gear degradation here, on the wiki!

@Contortzz (question) - We would love to, and hope to have the character creator in players' hands before the release of Ashes of Creation! :)

@Skeleton_King (question) - Race that contributed the highest percentage to the node's advancement will alter the racial appearance of its buildings, NPCs, and props. This style and culture change happens at every stage. You can read more on this here, on the wiki!

@MixaZavr (question) - You can read more on the bounty system here, on the wiki!

@SerChubulas (question) - PvX is the core and fundamental design to Ashes of Creation. We plan on fine-tuning the corruption system in our future testing phases, tweaking it if, when, or where it needs so that we won't need to consider PvE/PvP-only servers or the disabling of PvP interactions. Steven will have talked about this topic on the stream to further elaborate, as well ^_^

@McMackMuck (question) - Please stay tuned for more information regarding nodes, node superpowers and specific node mechanics as we progress further towards Alpha Two :)

@Cloudy (question) - Please stay tuned for more information regarding the in-game economy as we progress closer to Alpha Two! ^_^

@dairrizle (question) - I believe your questions were answered on stream ^_^

@ButtercupClover (question) - Objective-based PvP events such as node sieges, castle sieges, guild wars, and node wars will occur within a prime-time window somewhere between 3PM and 9PM server time. This is subject to testing. If night falls into the server prime-time, then yes :) You can read more on sieges here, on the wiki!

@Daredevil117 (question) - Tank primary classes will of course be viable tanks :)

@SnowElf (question) Our designers are hard at work coming up with some fun holidays and events for players to enjoy! Please stay tuned for more information regarding in-game holidays as we progress closer to Alpha Two! :)

@boblikesoup (question) - Please stay tuned for more information regarding racial abilities and augments as we progress further in development! :)

@TeKDrY25 (question) - We know that class fantasy is important to our players as well as ourselves. We hope to get class fantasy right for all 64 of our classes :)

@horendis (question) Interesting question! When it comes to lore topics such as this one, we want to keep our cards close to the chest, so to speak. We don't want to spoil any of the awesome story content our lore folks are creating! :)

@MetalDad (question) - You can read more about what has been said regarding dungeons here and open-world gameplay here :)

@Scutum (question) - You can read more about the languages we plan on supporting here, on our support site!

@Neurotoxin (question) - The open seas are an automatic-flagged location. Players that enter open seas will be auto-flagged for PvP.

@BinnsyBoi (question) - Extreme character deformation, such as the example you provided, will not be a feature of the Ashes of Creation character creator. You can read more about the character creator here, on the wiki!

@palabana (question) - The current design is that corruption is applied to a single character and not the entire account's roster of characters.

@Kamik (question) - You can read more about what has been said regarding endgame here, on the wiki!

@vahro (question) - You can read more about what has been said regarding cinematic storytelling here, on the wiki!

@Hutchy1989 (question) - In this scenario, an enemy player could intercept your projectile, blocking it from hitting your target.

@dbenaharon97 (question) - You can read more on what has been said regarding social organizations here, on the wiki!

@Lashing (question) - We'll have answers to more intricate or detailed questions such as this one in the future, as we get closer to Alpha Two! :)

@Shimario (question) - Currently, we do not have any plans on making PvE-only servers. Ashes is a PvX game by design and many of the systems and mechanics of the game hinge on that aspect of design :) We believe that once players have tried this system for themselves, they will find that it's quite fun and rewarding for players that both like and dislike PvP.

@Maoui (question) - We don't want to go into too much detail about our security systems so that we can ensure their integrity. You can read more on what has been said regarding security systems here, on the wiki! Rest assured that security is important to us :)

    @zkl (question) - Is this a trick question? ;)

@Strevi (question) - Mules transport goods on a much smaller scale than the caravan system. Mules can carry roughly 10 times more than backpacks. Caravans can carry roughly 10 times more than mules. Caravans will have carrying capacity limits and customizable stats, such as defensive points, speed, and number of hired NPC guards. In addition to expanded inventory capacity, caravans also provide ancillary benefits relating to successfully completing trade routes and other quests. You can read more on this here, on the wiki!

@Blip (question) - While the best gear will be the result of crafting, players can acquire gear from various sources such as open-world mob and boss drops, quests and more.

@NyceGaming (question) - Personally, what I have to say to these players is this: While Ashes of Creation may not be the game for everybody, I believe that most people who enjoy the MMORPG genre will find many things about Ashes of Creation very fun and entertaining. It's ok if PvX is not for you. However, if you're skeptical, I highly recommend playing the game once it has been released to see if, in practice, you find that you might actually enjoy it! In the meantime, we look forward to seeing feedback during our testing phases leading up to the release of Ashes of Creation!

@Griffin7417 (question) - The node system of Ashes of Creation is the cornerstone of the world and one of the greatest catalysts for change. Every player, no matter their involvement in their local node governments, will see the benefits and consequences of node advancement and destruction :) You can read more on nodes here, on the wiki!

@George_Black (question) - "For clarification, any amount of corruption allows a player to drop equipped gear upon death. The higher the corruption the greater the chances" - Steven Sharif

@DigitalDayDream (question) - Potions and food will have different means of crafting, with different ingredients and facets to the effort required to make them. Depending on their purpose, they may be more difficult to create. With that said, it will entirely depend on the food/drink item or the potion :)

@Decom (question) - If you're in a group of 5 players and you're roaming the world looking to kill players, I would be cautious of bigger groups of players coming to do something about your smaller group ;)"There's always a bigger fish..."

@Mandarian (question) - You can read more on gear, including how it is acquired, here, on the wiki!

@Ashenforge (question) - Guilds are very important to Ashes of Creation. Guild leadership will have a robust set of tools to help them create the guild they want! You can read more about guild leadership tools here, on the wiki!

@Jtfin (question) - Some aspects of the game will be able to be done alone, while others will require groups of players. You can read more about group content here, on the wiki!

@Optics2134 (question) - You can read much about what has been said regarding zergs here, on the wiki!

@bushpig (question) - Be sure to read up on what has been said regarding the character creator here, on the wiki!

@Craiken (question) - Currently, that is our goal... Be sure to stay tuned to learn more about this as we progress closer to Alpha Two! ;)

@LittleLightz (question) - Great question! We'd love to see your art! You can post that here, on the forums!

@worddog (question) - A player does not need to declare citizenship of any node. These players won't need to pay taxes but will miss out on the benefits of citizenship. You can read more about this here, on the wiki!

@Brosong (question) - Great feedback! We love seeing ideas, suggestions, and feedback like this over on the General Discussion section of our forums!

@Korshal (question) - You can find the answers to your questions *and more!* here, on the wiki! ♥

@Kakashi_Hatake (question) - You will be able to participate in all the artisan class and profession systems with enough time and perhaps alts ;) You can read up on that here, on the wiki!

@Stocke (question) - This stream featured some awesome new updates to the game's UI! Feel free to leave your feedback on it over in General Discussion on the forums! :)

@Deadfool (question) - You can read up on the animal husbandry system here, on the wiki!

@Sevariel (question) - Between your choice of class, skills, and augments, one healer may find their abilities look different than another :)

@Vannon (question) - Currently, this is not a planned feature for Ashes of Creation.

@minoze (question) - The team is open to feedback and ideas regarding this topic. We recently created a Dev Discussion thread about this very topic here!

@Ze0Kelvin (question) - Up to eight players of the same primary archetype can band together to create monumental effects during a siege. With that said, the classes will need to be in the same group or raid.

@Arugan (question) - Please stay tuned for more information on the caravan system as we progress further in development!

@Synkil (question) - You can read up on what has been said regarding player corruption penalties here, on the wiki!

@TeltheKeeper (question) - Currently, that is not a planned feature of Ashes of Creation.

@Phaetal (question) - The quality of crafting materials will influence the quality of the crafted item. You can read more about what has been said regarding crafting here, on the wiki!

@EpicHeroMan (question) - How much tanking would a tank tank if a tank could tank a tank? Alt answer: If you don't like tanks but you like tanks and you wanna tank without being a tank, perhaps you might enjoy the summoner archetype?

@Malotrux (question) - You can read up on what has been said regarding servers for Ashes of Creation here, on the wiki!

@Absolut (question) - Soon! We have exciting updates for merch that we hope to share in the coming months :)

@JustVine (question) - Steven certainly has thoughts and opinions on the economic systems of many MMORPGs! He hopes and believes that the economy of Ashes of Creation will be his favorite to date ;)

@danzo (question) - Non-forced attacks (such as AoE) will not hit non-combatant players. You can read more about this here, on the wiki!

@FiestyWalrus (question) - Steven talked at length about this topic on today's stream! If that didn't answer your question, be sure to check out the wiki, here! ;)

@Aika (question) - One example of why you may want to go combatant is for the exact example you provided: Say you're out to gather a material, but there is another player beating you to every gatherable. One player in that circumstance may wish to engage in PvP with the other as to fight over the limited resources available!

@Yeeldarb (question) - Players can use bulletin boards to post jobs :) Be sure to click those links to read more on the wiki about the subjects :)

@Trob (question) - The rock-paper-scissors is the balancing philosophy of the game. The game is largely balanced around group dynamics, which means that some classes may have an easier time against others. However, in the example you provided, that "level 10 scissor" could perhaps stand up against the "level 15 paper" especially depending on individual player skill expression ;)

@Castai (question) - We are willing to take the time that is necessary to ensure that Ashes of Creation is the best MMORPG we could possibly make. We understand how excited people are to play the game, as we ourselves are very excited! We hope to have Alpha Two in the hands of our players soon! We greatly appreciate the patience of all those following this project :)

@prenex (question) - You'll find plenty to read regarding lore here, on the wiki! :)

@Diaxfrost (question) - Personally, I believe that those who master their crafts to perfection will create quite the name for themselves on their servers. This may create the desire for guilds, organizations, or powerful individuals to persuade that master artisan to help them! I can imagine quite a lot of political intrigue would follow those whose names are carried with fame for their partisanship ;)

@arsnn (question) - We have not announced any dates for any spot tests preceding Alpha Two! ♥

@NumbThumbs (question) - Players will have the ability to do this, but may find themselves hindering their leveling process by sticking solely to one aspect of leveling, such as gathering.

@PapaWhiskey (question) - The stat dampening that applies to a character from the corruption penalty may cause reduced stats and therefore reduced damage from attacks, including that of auto-attacks.

@Nyxxa (question) - Player characters will have a single 'character level', which class choice should not affect. What I mean by this is that Ashes of Creation leveling will not work the same as it does in D&D, in which a player multi-classes and applies levels to different classes.

@Cadac (question) - Personally, I believe that players that are skeptical of some aspects of Ashes of Creation will find themselves enjoying said systems once getting their hands on them during a playtest, or upon the full release of the game :)

@Abarat (question) - We're happy to be an open developer that utilizes a transparent development method. :) Steven and the rest of the team are very excited to show off progress during our development updates and we find that it creates a positive and creative work environment for the developers here!

@SongRune (question) - We believe in being well unto one another. We've created a set of rules for our community platforms that help us achieve the goal of reducing toxicity in our community. We're always growing and adapting and we do our best to always be active!

@Jahlon (question) - Non-combatants (greens) who heal, buff, or otherwise assist combatants (purples) or corrupted players (reds) will be flagged as combatants (purples).

@netrimos (question), @Tyranthraxus (question), @Schwann36 (question) - Your questions were ones we hoped to have gotten to on stream but didn't quite have time. We'd love it if you came by next month for the next development update livestream to ask them again! ^_^

@Overthrow (question), @LueW (question), @Mycology (question), @LordPax (question), @RowniSciponi (question), @Asgermon (question), @Drunkninja (question), @Dolyem (question), @Azherae (question), @Goalid (question) - Congratulations! @Vaknar Because your condition is to ask the questions in a succinct way, I do not feel that my concern is being understood and answered.

Declaring guild wars was mentioned in the stream as a way to protect a mithril vein in a cave. That means in Steven's vision the corruption is actually strong enough to prevent attacking players who come to mine it. That means it is also strong enough to encourage them to transport that mithril using mules rather than caravans. Resources will be scarce, not enough for everybody so not loosing them is more important.

So I cannot accept the 10 times more carrying capacity in the wiki as an answer to my question.
What are the ancillary effects of a caravan to make solo gatherers use caravans rather than mules to transport the rare mithril ore?

Will caravans be used only for common abundant resources but not for the rare mithril?
If yes, then my interest in this game fades fast.
Was my question not selected because you think the wiki answers my question? :disappointed:

If players can transport resources more securely protected by the corruption penalties, the land degradation mentioned in the stream can also be done easily by players who are not in a guild. Declaring a war against any node might not be easy, (definitely not possible against parent node and allies) and players will rush to rare resources from everywhere and cause negative effects upon the resource regeneration.

Ah, thank you for explaining it further. I did understand your question the same as I do now, even after your explanation. I believe the wiki page and subsequent pages on the subject should fundamentally answer your question! For further information and more intricate details, please stay tuned for more information as we progress closer to Alpha Two! ^_^

Id really hope at the very least if I devote myself to surveying and become good at it I could gain from that somehow, if that ties into archeology/map making if that's in the game then I could sell those maps that somewhat act as keys to access the nodes that were surveyed. would this make it more of a scribe thing yes no ??

@Hjerim (question) - The game is intended to be feature-complete by Beta-1. :)

Hi Vaknar, we have been promised an open beta within Apocalypse where there is going to be horde mode and siege mode. The latest I have heard was that Steven pushed Alpha 1 in front of the two others, but they are not cancelled. As far as I am aware, the open beta for these modes are supposed to be before Alpha 2. Is this no longer the case?
  • @Vaknar my question wasn't answered or responded to, but I'll ask again next month. Thank you.

Why would players take the risk of using caravans rather than their mules, to transport goods between nodes?

"Mules can carry roughly 10 times more than backpacks. Caravans can carry roughly 10 times more than mules.[33]"
    https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Caravans#Caravan_inventory

    100x profit than a backpack.
    10x profit than a mule.

    Profit = Shiny

If you have that many players joined together already, the group with the resources and the PvP'ers along the road, why not use a caravan? You have the defence already, you may as well hit 10x the profit.

Guess we'll have to see how it plays out in Alpha 2.

@daveywavey because the additional corruption protection which makes the attacker drop items too.
No matter how I look at it, solo player or group, all are protected by corruption.
If I have only 10% of the caravan capacity, I have no reason to share the caravan with others and pay a fee to the caravan driver.
if a small guild or family wants to transport the full caravan capacity size, then again the corruption offers some protection to them.
The purpose of this thread is to ask questions.

If you end up saying "Guess we'll have to see how it plays out in Alpha 2", please do not reduce the chance of my question being considered for the Q&A.

Any previously announced testing plans or dates surrounding Apocalypse are no longer accurate. We haven't announced any dates for future plans involving spot testing or Alpha Two at this time. Stay tuned for more information as we progress further in development ^_^

When this happens, it usually means you have a question that we would've liked to have answered on stream but couldn't quite make it in time. Please return next month with your question! ^_^

  • @Vaknar mainly just curious about NPC settlements or cities, and how dynamic they might be with NPC actions when out of combat. It would be interesting to see different stages of NPC growth (both in humanoids and critters). Seems like the seasons and passage of time would enable this to a degree. 😊
