Obviously Devs are on break, had a grand total of 2 days play since the 21st because of this error. If you are going to launch a game on steam, at least get your launcher working—— or it does look bad, and don't blame McAfee, your product needs to fit the market not the market fit you. I really wanted to play this, despite the world being literally empty 5 steps outside population centers, far too many systems dependant on players( your population is going to fall and the game will go with it) got a bad review from me and won't be playing any time soon. appalling state of affairs, but to be honest I should have seen the warning signs with the 9-year development time. SpaceX figured out how to get rockets back and these turkeys cant even get a launcher to work in 9 years. could have had a decent product, don't know why you haven't, can only blame incompetence.

Ok, I just went thru all this trouble shooting and I found that my McAfee is blocking AOC game files. (If I temp turn off McAfee, that did not work, I had to uninstall McAfee to get the game to work) I am not sure what AOC files I have to have turned off in the Real-Time Scanning list in McAfee in order to play the game. Probably all the game files, However, it will only let turn off or unblock one game file at a time (way too many files and time to do it) and I would have to do it all over again after any patch or update. I am now looking for another anti-virus to use, Hope this helps you all. 😎
I got the error too. I closed the game, stopped it in steam and closed Steam. When I started it all again, it worked

Same here but as consumers we should not need to change our AV for the sake of a game they should figure out why and fix it if they want our money
If your are still experiencing this issue, can you try deleting the listed file (AOCClient.exe for most discussing here), validating files through Steam, and trying again?

I am experiencing an EAC error with the message:
“EAC Failure: Reason 5 [Unknown file version (AOC\Content\Paks\pakchunk200_s40-WindowsClient.ucas)]”
I have already verified the game files through Steam, and there are no pending updates for either the game or Steam itself. Unfortunately, the error still occurs.
The issue does not appear immediately. It happens after I have been logged into the game for a few minutes, at which point the error message shows up and the game closes.
Please let me know if there are any additional steps I can try to resolve this issue.

Tried everything listed above. Only thing that worked for me was removing McAfee anti-virus which is crap anyway.

pretty sure my citizenship has now expired and any of my market sales in the mail box are probably at risk of disappearing.
I dont pretend to understand how difficult it is to sort this issue but this is getting silly given the time that has lapsed.
