The ensemble harbors the darkness of the umbra, the radiance of the stars, and the penumbra that lies in between. The diviner knows that even the heavenly bodies themselves adhere to a cycle of balance, thus the Vek must also find their own, lest they tempt ruin.

Burrow Hawk

Burrow hawks are winged forest creatures well-suited to hunting in the air, or swiftly catching prey on the ground. For the Vek, they serve the role of a companion, as the nomadic journey of diviners is often a solitary one. They are attentive but curious creatures, a fitting personality for their masters. Many Vek also take to rearing burrow hawks as would-be guardians or scouts, as their innate nature makes them highly adaptable. It is not uncommon to come across a Vek hunter or scholar, seemingly alone, only to find a large burrow hawk patiently watching from afar.

The bearded balemane has been an indispensable aspect of Vek society, whether for travel, construction, or war. Paint is used to differentiate a chosen balemane's purpose. Few beastmasters outside the Vek willfully go out to tame a wild balemane, for they have a fierce temperament to match their foreboding stature. If trampled underfoot by its hooves, adversaries should take great caution to avoid being impaled. A tamed balemane, however, is a hardy beast that will fight tooth and hoof for its rider.

These oracles view day and night as a vast, unceasing scripture, and dedicate themselves to its studies. Generations of sages have contemplated the origins of the stars, whether created by forgotten gods or living on as divine beings all their own. Regardless, the seers maintain a watchful eye as the pages of the sky turn.

Diviners require a place to store their accumulated writings and supplies as they make their travels, and this reliquary serves that purpose. It plods along, slowly but surely, driven by a single Vek steed. Additionally, the caravan is equipped with an astrolabe, enabling the scholar to find his way while also allowing for accurate reading of the stars.
