Players can set the appearance priority for the items they wish to show in their Back and Belt slots.[1][2][3]

Back slots

Backpack sockets (slots).[10]

A big component of the MMORPG that - half of that acronym is RPG role-playing game. And in order to role-play you need to be able to represent what your character is doing in that world and part of what animation is doing is creating these sockets on the let's say the belt or the back that can plug in certain types of props or items that are created by the character team, like Carson, might be a scroll tube, it might be a potion, it might be whatever: Those players will have the ability as we've discussed in the past will have the ability to select what they want to be represented in those sockets and then animation will make sure that jibe well in movement.[10]Steven Sharif

Back slots include.[4]

Backpacks

Three different backpack types with varying stack sizes and spatial inventory shapes.[14]

I see now I've actually gotten a unique looking structure for the Aelan Herbalism Basket; and those are the types of structures you would expect them to gather that are the gatherables for herbalism. So, that's not necessarily to say that I can't collect non-herbalism resources: I could and I could put them in that bag, but it just wouldn't utilize the most beneficial aspect of it, which is the higher stack count for those types of herbalism resources.[14]Steven Sharif

Featherstone Expedition Pack backpack 3D renders.[11]

In order to roleplay you need to be able to represent what your character is doing in that world and part of what animation is doing is creating these sockets on the let's say the belt or the backpack that can plug in certain types of props or items that are created by the character team.[15]Steven Sharif

Backpacks (also referred to as a Bags) are craftable items that provide personal inventory space.[16][17][18][19][20]

These bags have specifically curated benefits for stack sizes of the type of resources they relate to and that's the specific profession of gathering and the resources you would gain from those those different unique professions.[14]Steven Sharif
  • The higher level the backpack, the greater the inventory capacity.[19]
There's item progression as it relates to quality of bags, types of bags, and the materials they're most used for. Some of them are more PvP oriented that can reduce significantly drop rates for PvP as a result of that progression.[18]Steven Sharif
  • A character currently may equip up to 3 artisan backpacks, but is subject to change.[23]
    • Characters may equip multiple of the same type of backpack.[24][25]
Some of those bags might have increased times to interact with a player corpse and you can choose to perhaps have less capacity, less stack size, less slot availability for the certain types of gatherables you may want to acquire in exchange for an increased interaction time for other players that might try to loot that bag, giving you time to reach it and take back your belongings. Or, if in the middle of a fight they see a corpse on the ground and they're like wait a minute, I want to grab that. Well, if I got to spend 10 seconds to interact with that corpse and there's combat going on, this is an opportunity strategically for you to recapture the grounds- for you to recapture the battlefield. You want to think about those types of interactions. How do you add layers of strategy to engagements and and there's ways to do that through inventory management as well.[28]Steven Sharif

Cloaks

Cloaks (capes/coats/backs) are a type of back armor in Ashes of Creation.[32][33]

Ranged weapons

A character may equip up to two hand weapons and also wear a ranged weapon on their back.[6][7][4]

Belt slots

Mage character with material components for spell casting attached to its belt.[43]

The idea is to move away from the mundane application of belts in previous MMOs where they don't really have a lot of character so to speak. But in reality as an adventurer you come with a lot of tools and things that you have to use out in the wild in order to achieve what you're trying to achieve. So we wanted to represent that on your character and give you something that can actually be tangible for your character and see there. I think it adds a lot of character and flavor to your identity.[44]Steven Sharif

Belt slots (hip slots) include.[1][4]

Belts

Belts are a type of Armor in Ashes of Creation.[47]

Melee weapons

Low-level shield, one-handed mace, and two-handed staff 3D renders from Alpha-2.[48]

You can see by the quality of these types of weapons: these are relatively lower level. These are some of the earliest types of weapons and or gear that you can acquire within Ashes of Creation.[48]Steven Sharif

Melee weapons and abilities have a maximum range of effect.[49][40]

  • There are two melee weapon slots: One on each side of a character's belt.[4]

Potions

Potions are a consumable in Ashes of Creation.[51]

  • Potions can be consumed while in combat, but there will be a shared cooldown with potions of the same tier.[52]
You might have a very strong potion and a very minor potion. They'll have separate cooldowns that they share with their with their same tier.[52]Steven Sharif
  • Growth potions may be in the game.[53]

Idle animations

Idle animations (non-combat idle stances) will be selectible by players in the character creator.[9]

Part of the feedback that we got from the tank demonstration when we were holding that two-handed sword was that people would like to see variants of the types of non-combat idle stances that can be had with certain weapons; and so we decided to introduce a variant of that with having the [sword] rest on the on the shoulder; and that is something that we'll be exploring further to see just how much runway we can get out of custom and/or selective idle stances.[9]Steven Sharif
