Considering the Tulnar

The AoC devs are banging away and collecting data about Alpha - 1!
With Alpha - 2 coming soon, hopefully we'll get a first look at some Tulnar, I thought we could get started on some discussion on this unique race!

The Tulnar race will be in place before Alpha-2. Concepts and early works are expected at that time.[15]

I better get to play my Orc before you get Tulnar. I'm tired of playing the flippy gnomes!

I didn't choose beast race because I prefer Orcs. Without them, I would have picked Tulnar.

What stands out to me is the customization but I also disliked most of the customization I saw.

No problems other than I will get extra joy out of killed any Tulnar : )

I am very interested in the lore of the game and haven't yet read what little has been released on it. I'm looking forward to learning of new heroes and villains in the world. Characters to loathe and characters to look up to as we shape the lands.

Being unique. I hate the sameness that is everywhere. Make something different and not the Knife eared freaks.
Opposite Khronus I would have gone Orc if not Tulnar were not going in game.

Looking forward to what the have chosen to add for The Great Tulnar Empire.

I didint pick a khajiit in ESO for example as it looked out of place, a face of a tiger with 6 pack abs and strange facial expression came off odd and misplaced. Like many elements came together to make a mess of a character.
I did pick a charr in GW2 I thought the backstory was well written but more importantly the character itself had a confined pallet of colours adhering to the lore, the character wasn't made of too many features and the character creation screen let you adjust those unique features so you could keep it in line without going over your taste.
You'll notice the way these races hold the weapons and armaments first, the way they stand and how they talk will be some of the first impressions. A battle expression with teeth or a snarl would definitely look cool.
Its hard to find a set of armor that "fits" these races, plenty of games may only have a few sets of armor that don't clip into the character and go around the features without "stretching" the graphic so its extremely obvious.
Regarding lore the first scene I often get with a new race is the generic neolithic introduction, customs and believes are quickly blanketed over by the protagonist leaving very little for the player to experience lore wise. The lore of newer races covered in FFXIV had a bit more substance as they would try to understand the beast race a little bit which added way more substance in the quest line following this race.

"Oh you are a bull and have followed the path of a Paladin, worshiping the human looking god/goddess of light? What else did you attended their temples and churches?" Stupid looking.

Yes how stupid looking a descendant of an ape that walks upright looks riding a different creature with a quadrapedial design better built for speed.

Boreder line (but not quite) racist, not even going to bother being sarcastic. How dare they want to alter their appearance or defenses? Yeah couldn't come up with a good retort its that dumb.

Some systems allow you to use these appendages in combat but isn't the answer to this the same reason someone without these things wouldn't use their fists. If you had horns on your helmet or claws on your gloves, would you use them over a traditional melee weapon?

Humans can also eat things raw and not sure what that has to do with riding a mount.

Just because you have fur doesn't mean you can't get cold. Not sure that argument. Just because you have scales, doesn't mean you can't get cut.

Why does our appearance or how we walk matter. What about wise, undressed dragon who walks on all fours when not flying. Would you not want to communicate with it if it gave you the time of day? To it, you are little more the ants.

I don't really force my views on other people's character choices and actually prefer to see variety. I'd be happy to be the only lizardman.

I guess my not so humble opinion is your not so humble opinion is intentionally illogical and lazy.

I hope to not see you using any magical weapons, mounts that aren't horses, or playing anything outside of a human fighter.

If you did, the fantasy would be too much for you to deal with.

Reaching the tulnar goal during the Kickstarter was such a happy moment for me. I’m so tired of playing dwarves/orcs/humans/elves. I enjoy unique races in games. They are also one of the reasons I hope the racials are flavorful but not so important they create an ultra rigid meta around them.

I haven’t played many beast races in MMOs due to not being on the side all my friends were on(Tauren), or not fitting the type of class I want to play(argonian). But I always enjoy making one in single player rpgs where your choices are not effecting/influenced other people.

Obviously one of the biggest issues always tends to be armor, but with this art team, and getting them in early I have high hopes they will get the animations/armors down nicely.

I’m very interesting in the Tulnar lore because there has to be such an interesting back story to the ones who stayed. How they survived and thrived, how they adapted to the changing world around them. How they over came so much diversity to live together and eventually become their own beings. I imagine there must be lots of internal conflict over their time spent in Vera, with different groups forming within the microcosm they created and I’m very interested to see how they play that out in game.

Agreed. They have an ability to not only being a unique aspect but also can help to enrich lore. While I know they were primarily underground for the majority of the time everyone was away I’m sure some has to scurry up to the top, or hear the rumblings from above.

I personally hope at some point we get to meet a crazy hermit Tulnar who ventured out into the corruption and survived but lost his mind, and now hears voices from an evil god who they regularly talk to while they’re talking to us. “I don’t know, they look a little scrawny, probably wouldn’t taste too good”

There was a clarification later if you missed it.

If you meant me, that was a conditional. but I can see how it could have touched a nerve. The world is currently full of people who label others racist based on simple intolerance displayed.

I didn't mean to say 'you're definitely racist', certainly not IRL. I believe you can understand how 'aggressive + intolerant + easily offended' might be indicators, but they're certainly not the whole story.

Until I see some concrete evidence of it, I would not say that about a person.

Best way to put it would have been 'if you were, it wouldn't surprise me'. Is that fair?
