What are you hoping for in Kaelar customization template?
Look at what we've seen of the Vek and the Ren'kai and there are similarities. Steven even pointed some out in the Vek reveal.
Here are similarities I see...
1) High cheekbones and sunken cheeks.
2) Prominent underbites.
3) Tusks, particularly from the lower jaw.
4) Wide and pointy ears (as opposed to the more slender and/or human-like ears of both elf races).
5) Wide-set, almond-shaped eyes.
6) Tall, almost elongated and relatively narrow heads.
That is only going by the faces, as was said we don't know what the Vek body type looks like. That might bring even more similarities.
A hairstyle similar to my avatar.
I liked that one too. The more variety, the better!
Dünir and Ren'Kai desigs are great but Niküa looks like a toddler to me.
It will be exciting to see what designs all races will have at the end. Can't wait to see Py'Rai elves.
What was the name of that guy in 'Princess Bride' who had six fingers?
Halflings may have originated from Tolkien but they have been widely adapted for many other games and storytelling platforms. As much as you think it is important to maintain the traditional dwarven qualities that you like, which are available in the Dunir race, it is also important to recognize that some people may want something different, which is kind of the point of the Nikua, from what I've gathered watching the development updates.
I am glad you like the current iteration and hope it is achievable in some form. I just have some very specific concerns that the current base can't achieve everything I want the Nikua to be capable of being.
It is more so that I don't think the current baseline has the capacity to reach the concept art nor does it feel like it matched the polynesian-ness of what they said they were going for. You are free to disagree with that.
How come IS didnt come out and say "and this is our halfling race?"
Since IS said these are the dwarven races the testers were 100% right to give negative feedback on them. Had IS said "this is our gnome/lalafell/halfling race" then you could invalidate the critisism.
Sliders are one thing. Race theme is entirely different.
Good of you to assume the former. I always read the whole post.
No opinion about the looks of mythological races is certifiably right or wrong. In some traditional stories, dwarves are akin to little winged fairies. If you are so upset that they didn't go full traditional (i.e. Tolkienesque) with the designs, be glad they didn't choose that tradition.
I am just telling you, in this video game setting, nobody ever talked about halflings.
When they implemented the first iteration of Dwarves, they weren't thinking, "These are Gnomes, but we will call them Dunir Dwarves."
The Dwarves in Alpha One look pretty close to Everquest Dwarves - which should not be surprising since a lot of the devs (including the artists) are from SOE/Daybreak. Also pretty close to Pathfinder Dwarves.
They don't look like Everquest Halflings. (They don't really look like any Halflings or Gnomes)
And they’re pretty buff for halflings, who are usually chubby and not extremely strong.
