I am currently thinking about few options to make the archetype more sexy... TANK sounds too ridiculous !

Here are the current archetypes and classes :

I am suggesting :

CHAMPION
HERO
(WAR)CHIEF
AEGIS
SENTINEL Already used
COLOSSUS
SHIELDBEARER

Edit with suggestions from posters :

CRUSADER
ROYAL GUARD / GUARD
ENFORCER
GUARDIAN Already used (Or change the class Guardian to use Guardian archetype instead of Tank).
KNIGHT Already used
WARLORD
PROTECTOR Already used
DEFENDER
VANGUARD
JUGGERNAUT
WARRIOR
ROCK
STALWART

I'd rather have Tank than 'Champion' 'Hero' or 'Warchief'.

Tank is the most ridiculous class of the history of MMO....

I'm not certain of that. The countless threads asking to change tank have no succeeded and tank has grown in my mind.

I am happy that you like it... Personally, I find it both funny and ridiculous to have a class with the name of a military vehicle from the second half of the 20th century. Worse! the name of a water reservoir. And "countless threads" show that Im not the only one to hate it...

There isn't a whole class named tank. Tank only exists for 25 levels and then you specialise. We also have Ranger and Fighter. Two other military designations.

Ranger is a classic D&D class and a fighter is a combatant... It is not specifically use for modern military (or to designate a water reservoir).

Tank is the class from pathfinder. Either that or 'Armour Class' and I think 'Armour' has the same issues. Thus, tank will not be changed. Hell, there aren't even steam tanks in Verra.

Bro... You have a super low level in ethymology and a terrible lack of culture... Armor class means just a class with an armor (nothing to see with armored vehicle or armor warfare). Armor exists since the Iron age...

In this case let's change "TANK" into "ARMOR" it would still sound a bit weird but still acceptable.

I gave you the literal class names in Pathfinder. Pathfinder is 'Tank' or 'Armour Class' and Steven loves Pathfinder so I believe Steven made the better choice to go with 'Tank' rather than 'Armour Class'.

I think Steven chose this name because he doesn't care about it at the moment and it doesn't impact the development of the game. It doesn't cost anything to change the name and I'm pretty sure the game won't be released with such a ridiculous class name.

The whole game is based on Steven's Pathfinder world and theory crafting. I believe the game was written years ago and since that time other ideas have been experienced through MMOs. We have 8 'tank names' all linked with 'Tank' and all spawn from 'Tank'. I do not see the basic fundamentals changing at all. However, it is Steven's prerogative to make changes.

    Tank.
Most people never listen. They are just waiting on you to quit making noise so they can.

This thread is already proving why the issue is pretty silly to begin with (and why a second thread is redundant). Every time it comes up the ones who want the name changed can't agree which name it should be changed to because they all have their own image of what fits the archetype. Which is probably why Intrepid has left it as Tank for the base and then expands on their choice for the class identity in the final combination.

Yes ... They didn't want to brainstorm as it is not a priority... But they will certainly find a real name in the future.

I would have guardian the name of the default tank class and and change tank/tank into vanguard instead of guardian
  • McShaveMcShave Member, Alpha Two, Early Alpha Two
    Guardian

    Guardian/Vanguard sounds super nice

Tank is ridiculous because you pair tank with something like the M1 Abrahams, but if it helps, you could view the name tank conceptually for what a M1 Abrahams is, a large hulking piece of metal designed to eat small arms fire, "IE tanking enemy fire".

TANK is a video game slang word, it has nothing to do in a class name...
  • yea its kinda like naming a class "support" or "healer"

    what about "Knight"

Bulwark (Basically the same stupid name as tank, but atleast keeps the medieval theme)
    Protector
    Defender
    Vanguard

No offense, but if you seriously believe that tank is better than all the names above here, your a potato.
Lets change fighter to Deeps and cleric to healer and bard to support and ranger to ranged too.

  • SongcallerSongcaller Member, Alpha One, Alpha Two, Early Alpha Two
Tank covers all 4 of the designations above.

That's actually where the name came from! The English used the code name "Tank" to disguise the development of the weapon under a guise of a water reservoir company! It allowed for the explanation for giant sheets of metal shipments being used for water "Tanks." Cistern and reservoir were also both used as code names for the project. But if you view a tank as a giant reservoir of health, you can kinda convince yourself it makes sense!
