I think the issue is that it sounds like it *is* required because it provides *unique* skill augments, items, recipes etc. You can’t really call that optional if it has a significant impact on character progression. If it was RP I wouldn’t care. Do whatever you want.

Do whatever you want. how do you know they are significant? maybe the augment sucks they provide 4 progression paths, each one tied to a node. if you pick religion, you are missing on the other 3. just pick military or something....
