Servers

Does anyone know intrepid's plan in regards to servers?

East coast, central, and west coast servers being offered? Have they discussed this topic?

so there would just be NA servers and not a NA east, NA central, and NA west servers? FOR NA? So assuming all servers will be based off west coast time since intrepid is based on the west coast???
  • I'm kind of hoping South America doesn't get pooled into North America regional server allowances.

it pretty much hints to that on the wiki with the alpha 1 server currently (us west, us east, eu west, eu east) with goals for South East Asia and Oceanic being separate too. Why i was thinking South America might get their own.

Each server is only going to be able to hold like 8k-10k active players so the numbers will be based around player retention and marketing projections.

    Specific region servers for testing?
I thought people are talking about release servers.
That means the Alpha 2 will have quite a lot of players and they might even test server merges, if population drops.

yes. if you go to the wiki you can see for yourself there is a number of regional servers especially for NA.
As mentioned, the servers max players for log in is going to be around 8k-10k. no point potentially having 100k people wait in line for a single 10k server...
  • If IS needs so many players to also keep regional servers alive, then maybe is indeed better to avoid launching Alpha 2 at the same time with T&L and hope players stay with AoC.

I do not think they need SA servers for Alpha 2... But for launch? I expect there will be tons of SA players looking to get into it then, if the game is a success.

The reason you want dedicated SA servers isn't just for the ping issues, it's because SA players are almost entirely BR Portuguese and Spanish speaking, and that language will take over certain NA servers to make them "default" SA servers.

They have already said US East and US West servers. Making all the timers based on US west would make US east players not play since they said prime time is 3-10 server time. New World showed how it could be done with AWS. This will be excatly the same. It will be US East and US West because AWS does not have central.

Alpha-1 servers are on this page: https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Servers . I expect it to be expanded for A2.

it was never intended to be about alpha 2, not sure why people keep jumping to that conclusion. I was addressing the goal for launch

The wiki does not say anything about SA currently so that's why I brought it up but the wiki does mention NA, EU, SEA and OCE but for testing only NA and EU currently.

I remember hearing Steven I think say something about them trying for SA servers for that population

I recall something about it too. If the player base in OCE is large enough for their own region then I definitely don't see why SA wouldn't be available at launch. Would help with a lot of multi-lingual issues as well as cross continental play.

I mentioned it before but imagine doing a node siege where a majority of both sides are cross continental with various ping issues (assuming the worst case scenario). It would just defeat the purpose of being able to have those large scale battles with minimal latency issues and frames per second regardless of PC settings.
