Two-handed axes and maces shouldn't be held vertically, since they have long handles and can be held horizontally. Two-handed swords are a different matter. I think New World did a great job in terms of animations and they should take inspiration from it. I also noticed that the animation of NPCs like wolves and others seems quite unstable in terms of frames, they slide over the terrain and when they die they always jump to instantly die. Cheers! well, everything is a work in progress and is subject to change that icnludes...everything, and that includes the animations and well...everything. anyways art isnt about being realistic, its about being believable. look at picasso paintings. you cant see both eyes of someone if you are looking at the side of their face, but he made them that way. is that realistic? nope. i thought it looked pretty cool how the dude with the 2 handed sword was holding it over his shoulder. he had this fk everything attitude. I'm sorry but I don't buy it. New World has done a pretty good job when it comes to animations, especially with running animations of players holding 2H weapons. The standard is there. If we start juggling dialectically with Picasso analogies and other stories, we are being conformist. It's not about being realistic or not, it's simply about looking good, being natural to the human eye. After all, the game simulates human beings in a medieval world, no matter how much fantasy there is. yeah but did you see how long it took new world to get there? did they have all that on day one? or the first year? or the 2nd year? youve probably only seen the release version of nw, not the alpha (which was under nda). ashes hasnt released yet... I've actually played the alpha of NW, which actually, was more Sandbox and PvP focused that what they released. i played it too. did you see how things were different than the final released game? .-.

NW animations are not the best. BDO is the standard. The point of the thead is not which MMO has the best combat/running animations, but if they are going to be improved. Maybe for you is BDO, maybe for me is NW, one or another, both options currently have better animations than AoC when it comes to running while holding certain weapons.

It is true that certain video game genres, realism is incredible without a doubt, but the mmorpg or rpg genre are fantasy games, they require this fantasy dynamics, magic, big swords, incredible animations in the skills, etc. This realism is incredible in games that are not mmorpg or rpg, for example GTA, RDR2, fps games, etc. Realism is one of the factors why mmorpgs have failed in my opinion.

From what I remember, New World Alpha was more close to a Sandbox PvP MMORPG. It was all about fighting other players pretty much wherever you went, and the game had this cool sandbox vibe where players were building and managing their own cities and outposts. Resource management and territory contest was a thing since you needed resources to build and develop the outpost. Also, there was PvP almost everywhere, but there were systems to punish ganking. In fact, it was a game much more close to what Ashes of Creation is going to be. But then, feedback came rolling in and the devs at Amazon Game Studios decided to switch things up for the final release. They added more PvE content, like missions and a more structured storyline, so it's not just about battling it out with others anymore. The game became more accessible and appealing for PvE players. It was a shame because it could have been a very cool PvP game and it ended to be the another generic theme-park

The point is NW is not good, I would not want a 2 handed sword running animation like that game, I had just pointed out the weak elements of it. AoC is already better than that when you are talking about the default run with a sword, you don't hold it like in NW lmao. NW is BELOW the standard, so i see you recommending things not done well (again as i pointed out in my other post the weaker elements of it). For a survival game sure it can meet the standards but honestly older mmorpgs might have better animations than nw tbh, (I'd even say swtor is better which is a mmorpg release 10+ years ago)

There might be a tweak here and there, but there's almost never a comprehensive overhaul that actually impacts the visual aesthetic. The one exception I can think of is Planetside 2, where they overhauled their locomotion animations to have more weight and direction a year or so post-launch.
