Alpha 2 Keys

I heard a lot of talk about a2 keys being cheaper than normal.

i personally believe this is a horrible idea. 1 you mess up with people who purchased it before.

just release the a2 packs for sale again, for the people who missed them.
no need to punish the people who bough them early. and no need to cater to people who bought them late.

release them full price. and it's the only way to go.

or you could make them cheaper and make a bunch of A2 buyers very upset. Or you could make them same price but without skins and make new players upset.

but if you release them same price as before same pack....no issues.

thoughts?

personally. if we cater to people that are late now.... we'll expect this in the future as well and maybe even hope to take advantage of it.

what do you guys think?

Because not everyone is reasonable.

The moment anyone brought a pack with alpha access, everything jn that pack immediately had a value of $0 - because it can not be sold (according to the ToS).

Something that has a value of $0 can not be devalued unless you go in to debt on it. That is not something that is happening, thus there is no possible way for the value of alpha access to go down.

As such, that has absolutely zero to do with Steven's comments. They were purely there to ease the complaints from those that are unreasonable - as while it is unreasonable to complain about this, Intrepid can not only cater to the reasonable - they must also at times pander to the unreasonable.

The problem I have is that in pandering to unreasonable complaints now, the next time something like this happens, the complaints will be reasonable, due to the pandering now.

I know it won't get devalued, I mentioned that in my first post.

People haven't made an investment and people don't throw their money up for no reason because they work hard for it. They spend it on what they themselves value first, and then market value.

In this case some valued the cosmetics, the game time or the name reservation. Some have valued their sentiment of contribution. And some, regardless of who they are and what they have been through, above all they valued the opportunity to be part of the testing phase, exclusively or not.

Pointing fingers doesn't advance the discussion. Everyone needs to be accounted for because that's how things work whether one likes to admit it or not and especially when promoting the sens of community which, again, I feel IS is being really good at.

I'm not pointing fingers at anyone - I am making a very blanket statement that complaints about this are unreasonable. However, from a business perspective, you sometimes need to cater to the unreasonable, as I said above.

The problem is now - next time Intrepid reduce the cost of anything, everyone that had purchased it previous has a perfectly reasonable expectation to recieve the same treatment that Intrepid give to what ever they give those of us that have access to alpha 2 now - this is why I said we shouldn't get anything.

We all still have what we paid for, and that is the bar Intrepid should be setting.

They were very clear in their statement on it that alpha 2 access may well be up for grabs again in the future, the fact that it is does not mean those of us that bought it earlier should get anything.

Yes. But access has never been exclusive. They even give it away for free.

The only thing that has been exclusive with preorders has been the cosmetics.

When the packs were ending, they made it clear that they weren't doing anymore exclusive cosmetics. And they made it clear that they would need to sell more Alpha and Beta keys.

I'm excited that AoC is giving out more alpha keys, because I want them to get as much funding as possible. I don't mind other players joining A2 for less. I think the point is more so that the advertising for the original keys was phrased as this is the last time you can purchase a key. (Not sure if that was exactly stated, or if they said "at this time") But it definitely evoked a feeling of FOMO.. so when new keys become available you think , oh i could have just waited for a lower price. So it may feel a bit dishonest. Personally I don't really care I just am happy I have a key xD but I can see why folks would be upset.

Am I going out on a limb here stating that this could be relevant to the reason behind the complaining?

Because then, since some us have way too much time on their hands, I would go and argue most likely until Q4 that the sales would have been significantly less if it had been known at the start

it's been known from the very start. You can look at the kickstarter and when they said access would be sold in preorders. And I can point to the announced roll-out of ashes apocalypse access. I can point to the family and friends roll out and lottery roll out of alpha zero.

I can point to alpha 1 access being sold in intrepid packs at PAX after the kickstarter and then adventurer packs during the alpha 1 and every time theyve said access would continue to be sold at a later date or given away via community giveaways as necessary.

Even here on the new site in their first FAQ from 2020 mentions the giveaways.

Access has never been an exclusive thing, ever.

Thank you for following this so diligently because unlike many dedicated backers like you I'm really coming out of the blue here and ain't got a direct streamline to what was said and how.

Do you have anything about mentions on alpha2 keys though? I was told by a previous user that it was clearly stated but so far it seems that It was only after the bulk of the sales. Which in my opinion is not a small detail.

I've seen some people talking about alpha2 keys on here and arguing with each other over semantics, however, no one has said when they are going to be available to buy? I hope we can just buy the key code at a more reasonable price as I don't care a thing about cosmetics.

I hope they have alpha 2 keys at different tier levels.

Like Tier 1: Alpha 2 access for 6 months - $30

Tier 2: A2 access for 1 year - $50

Tier 2: A2 access 2 years - $80

Yeah it wasnt clear at all, any normal person simply went on the shop website and bought their things, unless you have a specific question no one goes into the FAQ's. The website should have had a popup or banner that told users the necessary info. They werent being clear or obvlious, Details became blurred and now we have this situation.

Alpha status could go on for awhile and they made need to hit a certain number of players at peak times to stress test things. if this is the case they may open up more sales but it's going to be played by ear from my understanding

Alpha-2 is meant to be persistent. As in, barring downtimes and server updates, it's meant to go all the way to the beta timeframe, constantly being updated as new things are ready to be added to the Alpha testing structure.

This idea may have changed, but that was the concept last time I checked.
