Game Masters RPing in the world of Vera?

I think it would be cool to see GMs role playing in the world of Vera in some way shape or form even if you dont know they're Gms.

It would add to that "MMORPG" experience you only get in these games.

They could create spontaneous stories, events, or just random things going on in the world.

Having those spur of the moment, unscripted, or unique events would be incredible to see or be apart of.

feels a bid weird to me. that would really ruin my immersion. plus GMs have stuff to do lol.

im thinking within immersion and a strict "dont break character", but staff from intrepid would have the tools necessary to create these "moments"...temporary spawning objects, mobs, etc to create an Intrepid designed event without the necessity for game development or scripting

We'll have something like that almost certainly. There's a system still being worked on for 'monster coins' that allow players to control a monster as a sort of event. I imagine you'll see GMs in that role a time or two.

these events are planned, even if they seem spontaneous.

I actually disagree with you on this one. I think having GMs role-playing in the world would enhance immersion, not break it. If anything, Game Masters are essentially the MMORPG version of a Dungeon Master, and creating spontaneous events, stories, or interactions is exactly what a good DM does in a tabletop RPG. It would add an unpredictable, living element to the world of Vera, where things aren't always scripted or predetermined.

Players often crave those unique, unscripted moments that make them feel like their actions or participation in the world really matter. GMs stepping in to role-play or trigger events would create those memorable experiences that feel special and exclusive to MMORPGs. Plus, it adds an element of mystery if you don’t even know it’s a GM.

I think this fits perfectly into the spirit of a true MMORPG. What’s more immersive than a living, breathing world where anything can happen?

As long as the "event" rewards are not too special (maybe just common stuff) then go ahead and mix it up, but otherwise, people are gonna gripe that they missed it because it wasn't during their gameplay time or they weren't in the right place at the right time (which is the point of being spontaneous).

I get where you're coming from, but I think the rewards aren't really the point of those RP moments. The real value is in having an organic adventure unfold, where the outcome could be something like a new landmark appearing, new content being unlocked, or on the flip side, a ruin being burned down or an important NPC dying. The reward is simply being present during a cool, dynamic story that evolves the world of Vera. It's those unique experiences that make the world feel alive and unpredictable, and not every memorable moment needs to come with loot attached.

the reward is the point, and that's true for a lot of people. remember that everything you get will be kept forever until you manually get rid of it, unlike DnD where you need to start from scratch everytime you finish a campaign and loot might not matter as much).

if I have the choice to kill a boss that will give me something I want, or go to a new, fun event that gives me nothing, ill take the boss kill any time (killing bosses is fun too)

I remember playing other games where the staff would randomly drop in, and it was always very well received by the players. Would be cool to buy Vaknar a drink in the local tavern

Like in old school MMOs. It was nice but I remember also so many abuse. Like GM with flags could put you in jail for 24 hours and take some stuff in your bag to give back to the guy crying after you stole his mob.

But it was the time where one server was 300 players, not 8000 )

Also many were complaining that GMs are never popping when they are online.

You are maybe too young to understand what the OP meant. In the past, GMs were not technical guys, they were entertaining players.

Imagine having all the power of a GM to come up with spontaneous or not so spontaneous events. Events not needing development time or game patches. You will still have the GMs doing the technical stuffs but i was thinking a GM whos focus is more so on creating experiences.

They could create a character to try to get people to go on an adventure for a goal or task

They could spawn a random portal that teleports you to wherever

They could get together with other GMs to RP a band of traveling bards or beings from another world

Maybe they could go a step further and create unique items or cosmetics for events but should probably be a 1 time possibility unique to the events to maintain the value of uniqueness and randomness.

Most MMOs focus too much on the "meta". "i need the best armor, i need the best crafting, i need the BIS". Yes all these are great and are also APART of the overall experience you get within an MMO but if you focus everything on this you lose the other moments...the "soul" of what makes an MMO so damn fun.

Having GMs do this is basically creating another system with infinite randomness with infinite potential within the game limited by creativity but without it being scripted and repetitive.

The mentality of all this being that you wouldn't expect to see it at a set time or place. you may see it or you may not. Its just another possible experience.

In one game i played occasionally a GM would take control of a monster and pretend to be the monster and use there skill and ability they have access too but would have the unpredictability due to being a person not AI rules :P occasioanly they would raid a town as mobs aswell and sometime they would have a named mob that dropped interesting items.

With the profesionalisation of staff and large financial stakes, it became risky to make such random things. It can bring more negative than positive with mass people complaining that this guy or this guild got a particular treatment during an event or took a portal that bring them closer ton an area... Or whatever if it's some human decisions, people will complain that it's not fair. And often these GMs bring to unfair decisions.

It can work if it's 100% RP without nothing special adding to the game or summon, just using the existing environnement. Maybe adding titles or skins.

What game it was ? I was also a GM in the early 2000s in T4C. That was fun but with special flags of teleport, spy bags, instant kill, summons, invisibility, prisons (etc), there were always some players to complain about you. And it was small servers. On a 4000 people server no way it can work.
