After the 2 hour downtime, when the servers were up again, the error came back. This is the OS trace of what was happening during the time when the errors occurred
It appears in the source code there might be a call for GetHostByName and it has been deprecated! and the call cannot go through and as a result the launcher wont kick off things properly
To the Developers:
Replace GetHostByName with GetHostName - https://stackoverflow.com/a/70978244
I should add that having the firewall off has no effect
title.
Bug Reproduction Steps
try to login within the launcher while the login server is down (you want to patch for example)
Expected Result
don't get your credentials wiped
Bug Report - Actual Result
launcher resets saved credentials
Description
I have very slow internet (6MBit/s) and i am still trying to download the client. I am under the impression, if i did not finish downloading the client and a new patch is released, the launcher is redownloading everthing or atleast more than it should.
But i can't tell, if that is really the case, because the launcher only show percentages and not how much needs to be downloaded again and i have no clue, how big the client currently is. So maybe the launcher is reusing previously downloaded data, maybe not.
What i can observe, that i have in the install folder a folder .patcher wich currently contains 3 folders with duplicated files.
So my assumation is, there is a folder for each patch you release.
current folders:
- unknown_AocAwsProd-108E7538C68F45874BA36F6C2BB76671_AocAwsProd (created 10/26 13,6 GB)
- unknown_AocAwsProd-BE1204B6FC32CB5543A4E8446E2EFE09_AocAwsProd (created 10/24 31,2GB)
- unknown_AocAwsProd-E552687973FC77872C2BC57F2A02B9DE_AocAwsProd (created 10/27 19.4GB currently patching)
so if patches in progress dont really merges the downloads of unfinished downloaded patches and only merges the completed downloaded client with new patch deltas, then i will never be able to finish the download, if you release more often then it takes me to download one patch.
What is also not helping, that if the servers go offline, the downloads are not continued automatically. So downloading while i am sleeping, could be interupted. Which i understand that this is perfectly fine in an alpha.
Bug Reproduction Steps
have slow internet. and take longer to download per patch than patches are released
Expected Result
-reuse existing downloaded data from previously not finished versions (which may already be the case, but i cant really tell, but my install folder is already 86gb which seems a lot for an alpha with not that much content)
I've tried searching for the fix for this for a few days now and haven't been able to find one. If anyone could help out that'd be grand.
So hard to say, if this is a real issue or just a lack of clarification of real progress
so i didn't see this posted anywhere else and i know its a very low priority, but the intrepid launcher never "fully" closes for me when i hit the X it closes but still runs hidden in my background process, this prevents it from opening again
i have to go into Ctrl+Alt+Del and search it then end task to be able able to open the Launcher again
btw keep up the amazing work Intrepid!!

Here’s how to proceed:
1. Download the Latest Visual C++ Redistributable:
Go to the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable page.
Download the appropriate version for your system (x86 or x64) and install it.
To decide which Visual C++ Redistributable version to download, check whether your system is 32-bit or 64-bit:
1. Most Common Choice:
For most modern systems (running Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit), download the x64 version.
2. Alternative for Older Systems:
If you’re running a 32-bit Windows OS, download the x86 version.
You the man.
- Patching even a very small download takes a very long time. ~5 seconds of download lead to 20+ minutes of patching
- My computer is mostly unusable during patching, even for simple mostly-text reddit boards
- Multiple patches per day, which is probably a short term situation
The SSD occasionally peaks ~400 MB/s during this process. But there are long periods of no writes, so it's possible that merging is happening in memory, and I only have 16 GB. That may be the real bottleneck. I'll be adding another 32 GB RAM (long overdue) before next weekend, so I'll see. While on the wait screen to enter a server for some reason the client is continuously reading ~100-150 MB/s from the disk. This does not taper off even after 20 min in queue. It does stop once I get in and the game fully loads.
same but i get this
The Question is only -> WILL IT f~xxx us over next Friday ? i have no Idea. Hopefully not.

this is new install of windows all updates
Reason For Issue: Game not installing the required programs before hand. There's a list after downloading installer. You have to manually install them. Windows one C++ is available with a google search. So is web Viewer. BUT-the Easy anti cheat will not install itself, so it can't authenticate.
FIX:
Close Launcher. > Search windows for EAC installer location: open file and search for:
EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe
go to it's file location.
Right click the file and select create shortcut. Move shortcut to desktop. (windows 11 right click file > show more options>create shortcut.)
Right click shortcut and select properties.
In the Target box, after the existing text, add the words "install prod-fn" without quotes. The text should show:
EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe" install prod-fn
Apply and save.
Double-click shortcut. Easy anti cheat will install itself. Start your game launcher.
I had to repeatedly reinstall launcher to see the names of the programs. It tells you upon reinstall of launcher. Get the program names from there
any advice?
I have downloaded like 60% of the game and then it got interupted
