Character name 16 character length limit?

Why such low length? Surely it costs nothing to extend the character name and store a longer text string?

For sake of all "Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz" and "Bryn Llewelyn ap Dafydd ab Ieuan ap Gruffudd ap Meredydd" folks out there.

Is 16 Characters really that bad ?
We don't need Names as long as "modern" Manwha's or Manga's, now don't we ? ;)

Imagine someone runs around with a Name like :
" I joined the Party to defeat the Demonlord but became a rich Pimp in the World of Verra instead " - or some shit. :D:D:D:D:D

Apparently the Game will be mature-rated enough that One can own a Brothel or so. :D

Yes. If there are concerns regarding longer names: managing friends, reporting players, there is plenty of existing UI tool ideas which address all of those.

16 is reasonable. back in the day the limit was 8, I couldn't even use my real name in games, I was one letter short >:

It isn't reasonable for me, same with removal of ALL special characters and "space" character in the name.

Do people in Vera have no average and longer names?
Do people in Vera have no surnames?
    What about James O'Briens?

Nevermind the extended char sets of German, Scandinavian or Slavic languages.

I'm ok with 16 being the max, however not being able to use spaces for given and surnames really annoys me in any game.

I like a limit of 10-12 and only alphabet characters.

Special characters and long names are Annoying to invite.

    Yeah, or whisper

Personally I found the 16 character limit, and the lack of spaces to be annoying. I had a particular character name in mind, but I was forced to change it. I want to roleplay, and not being able to have a full name makes that more difficult then it should.

I'm sure Mr. "Bryn Llewelyn ap Dafydd ab Ieuan ap Gruffudd ap Meredydd" doesn't introduce himself as "Bryn Llewelyn ap Dafydd ab Ieuan ap Gruffudd ap Meredydd" every time someone asks his name. imagine the face on Starbucks worker when they have to write "Bryn Llewelyn ap Dafydd ab Ieuan ap Gruffudd ap Meredydd" on a cup of coffee and then call for "Bryn Llewelyn ap Dafydd ab Ieuan ap Gruffudd ap Meredydd" when it's ready.

Was it 16 characters for the First Name, and 16 characters for the Surname?
Or was it 16 characters for both together?

Or had they only activated the First Name, so far?

We only have first name implemented so far. Surname will probably come during beta.

The characters from those other languages will probably be activated on servers that support those languages - the current alpha server is English only, for better or worse.

Prehaps they will implement other characters to English servers when implementing other languages with different character sets, but that is something that should be done at that time - there is literally no need for it now.

Well, here is hoping, at least for longer name allowances and hopefully a free name change feature when they eventually / hopefully add those features.
