I want to buy alpha wave 2 key, but unsure if I will be able to play with my hardware specs?

CPU: Intel i7-4770K
RAM: 16GB DDR3
GPU: GTX 1070 Ti, 16GB
Resolution: 1440p

According to this FAQ I might barely meet the requirements? But it's 1080p.

should manage 1080p low to medium settings.

If you want 1440p you're going to need a full system upgrade.

    AM5 B650 motherboard, 7500F CPU, RX6750XT or better, 32GB ram. as a baseline 1440p system.

You could save a little money going AM4 B550, 5700x3d and DDR4 ram but its end of life socket with no upgrade path. and about the same performance.

a 12600k if you prefer Intel for some reason.

and don't even think about getting a GPU with anything less than 12GB VRAM for 1440p.
  • My monitor is 1440p, but can I play with 1080p graphics settings and have it work that way?

    >"Please note that these requirements will change throughout our testing phases."
Might I be able to play 1440p later on in development?

yes you should be able to set the resolution lower than the native display output.
I am not sure how low the other settings will have to go but a 1070ti should be playable at 1080p.

You might be able to run 1440p low with ultra performance (screen percentage) upscaling... which is sort of the same thing as dropping down to 1080p...

however its also the 1070ti8GB and 16GB system ram that might impact performance...

Your current 4770K CPU is a bit dated now too so no real gains from a better GPU.

Basically you're correct that your PC meets the 1080p minimum requirements...So expect this level of performance if you decide to purchase Alpha2 access.

Would you be able to play at 1440p later...I doubt it. Generally speaking your not doing any modern 1440p gaming without a 6 core CPU, 12gb GPU and 32GB system ram also you need the game installed on an SSD hard drive too

with a lot of GPU nowadays it mostly boils down to the VRAM, unfortunately the 1070Ti uses DDR5 Ram which even if you had 5x is a bit outdated specially for something like UE5 and has 8gb not 16gb of VRAM

Also you have what's called the "pipeline" data goes from your Drive>RAM>CPU Cache>CPU>Back to RAM>Display, you are Limited to a maximum speed of 1600mhz by your system RAM and the L3 Cache sits at only 8mb and 256kb of L2 cache.

You're entire system is Limited by somewhat outdated VRAM, Low speed System RAM and a CPU with a small L2/L3 Cache. definitely would recommend upgrading.

you actually don't even meet the minimum system requirements with the 8mb of L3 cache
  • @Apok Thanks for the in-depth reply.
    >and has 8gb not 16gb of VRAM
I went by "GPU Memory" in Task Manager, which shows 16 GB. Adjacent "Dedicated/Shared GPU memory" show 8 GB. I should have just googled it.

Wasn't sure what to make of the cache arguments until I realized the CPU actually is outdated. I interpreted i7 > i5 as being in the green, but it's actually the proceeding initial number showing the generation that matters. My CPU is generation 4, and i5-8400 is generation 8. Welp.

My motherboard is ASUS Z87-A with LGA 1150 socket limited to Intel's gen 4, so I'll have to basically upgrade the whole shebang if I want to play. Been doing just fine on Path of Exile and all kinds of simpler games. I'd basically be upgrading solely for AoC alpha, which has a non-trivial price to begin with.

It's still early Alpha anyway so you're not even missing all that much other than the weekly/daily changes.
Phase 3 might be a better target point to jump in on if you need time to upgrade.

The baseline system spec I suggested a few comments ago is the most cost effective 1440p entry level PC you could build with a future CPU upgrade path. If you want more performance the 7500F can handle a 7900xt/4070tiSuper.

On the first weekend of Alpha 2 I tried my luck with my former machine, which also had a 1070 Ti and (unfortunately) I never made it to Verra
