About Horizon
━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Horizon is a tight-knit, adult community of players and testers of Ashes of Creation. Our goal is to create a club-like atmosphere, forging bonds and friendships to last a lifetime. As such, we are currently on the smaller side for a guild. Our size, however, is not a detriment, but a strength. It allows us to pay individual attention to each of our members ("Cohorts") without allowing anyone to get lost in the cacophony larger guilds often come with.

We believe that MMORPGs do not need to be a second job. Our interest is not necessarily in being competitive, but rather, remaining whole and consistent, allowing all of our Cohorts to log in as much or as little as they please, and have a good time. Our membership is diverse, and will always embrace the enrichment that comes from having a member-base which walks many different paths of life. Our guild is a safe and welcoming place for all. (Yes, this means we are LGBTQ+ friendly.)

Additionally, we are an immersive roleplay ("RP") community. That means that much of what we do, in addition to the basic content Ashes of Creation allows us to interact with, lies in collaborative storytelling. It is not a requirement, though we strongly recommend partaking, as RP in any MMORPG can be a truly enjoyable way to interact with the game, and with each other. If you are new to RP, we are here to help, which RP workshops, guides, and resources readily available on our Discord server.

Our Requirements

• ➼ You must be 18+,
• ➼ You must be open-minded and friendly,
• ➼ You should reject drama -- at least OOC. (RP drama is great!),
• ➼ You do not have to be a roleplayer, but we strongly encourage you to give RP a shot!,
• ➼ To become a full fledged member ("Cohort"), you will be briefly interviewed. It's low-pressure and text-based, don't worry!,
• ➼ We will be rolling on NA servers, but welcome players from around the world!

Horizon Roleplays!

We have constructed a slice of a setting on Sanctus, the world in which all of our characters (save for the Tulnar) will originate from come the events of Ashes of Creation. Rather than waiting for a full launch to begin our storytelling, we've chosen to develop our characters in this place of origin, where their paths first intersect. We will continue along with this setting until we have some semblance of a release date, then will switch gears to begin a story arc in which these characters step through the Divine Gateways from Sanctus into Verra.

This setting, taking place on the player-conceived land of the Thalian Pearl, is a spinoff and departure from the original "Aeland" Sanctus setting utilized by a trifecta of former or dormant RP guilds--and we have a larger map to incorporate those settings and illustrate the distances between those lands and the Thalian Pearl.

Your character can jump into any Open RP thread and become a part of that narrative! If you need any assistance creating your character, Horizon has skilled writers and roleplayers--many with years of RP experience--who are ready and willing to help you out!

Down the line, we may host VTT (virtual table top) settings for visual interactions.

Enduring Commitment

Our first 22 members came from a guild that unexpectedly closed its doors one day. Of those 22 members, 4 came from another guild prior to that, which also abruptly closed its doors one day. Horizon was born from the ashes of these guilds--these communities that we cherished, fostered friendships in, and found belonging with. These disappointing experiences drove us to found Horizon with an explicit commitment never to suddenly call it quits.

We understand that guilds rise and fall, often times in tandem with the interest levels of a guild's leaders. Horizon was built through a collective process with our first members. Though it sounds a bit cliché, we are a guild that was made by our members, for out members... not for one exclusive, select group at the top. Our leadership team has therefore pledged that if we lose interest in Ashes of Creation, we will fully transfer leadership and ownership of all guild assets (Discord, website, in-game guild, etc.) to the people who are still playing, and who wish to carry Horizon's legacy ahead in Ashes with them. The only way we will dissolve is with a clear and explicit expression from all active members that a dissolution is for the best, or with activity dwindled down to the very last member, who would have nobody to poll but themself.

While our governance structure also means that our leadership may not always be comprised of the people it began with, those currently in leadership are terrifically stubborn--and at least a portion of them have been known to play MMOs well after their natural expiration date. So, we don't realistically see a mass jumping-ship of our volunteer leadership team as it exists now.
