Can other people that played Lineage 2 (mostly so C1 to C4) tell me how close to L2 this game is right now?

We talking old school mmo players here now so no WoW players or anyone playing anything that came out after Everquest 1

People that understand how ppl played MMOS bback then and not the mentality you need to hVe in 99% of today's MMOs.

It might sound harsh but rly don't mean it like that. But for me. MMO like the ones i loved Everquest 1 and L2 c1-c4 died when MMOs like WoW came out and every Mmo after have been a themepatk and I hate it.

  • At the current moment it kinda depends on the aspect of comparison you find more important, Lineage 2 influence in Ashes is definitely undeniable in many aspects as one of the main inspirations for the game according to Steven, but there is also Archeage influences that even tho a game also influenced by Lineage 2 has its peculiarities that also influece it, alongsdide other games.

As i don't know which aspect you value the most, i will just throw some here and if you want specific aspects do tell me.

Flagging: Very similar to L2 C1 to C4, main differences is that non-flagged players cannot be inflicted with CCs and PK penalties are harsher.

Gearing: Actually easier than L2 both for crafts and drops(Low No-Grade ~ lv 1-9 gear is somewhat harder to craft in Ashes because of direct gold sinks making it more expensive than expected of lowest grade gear, no restrictions on improving said gear compared to L2 tho)

Leveling: Definitely easier than C1 to C4, would say a lil harder than The Kamael/TheHellbound.

SandBox/ThemePark: Ashes is referred to by the developers as a "themebox" or "sandpark" and is definitely more SandBoxy than most MMOs, definitely more than L2/WoW.

Would you tell me for whom the bell tolls?

This is a mixed bag. The slow leveling is there, classes that are flawed but shine in areas that make teams depend on eachother. Still balance issues but the core is there.

It checks my boxes for the old school feel but it may not be for you. Game really punishes you when you fail.

Also does classes like old school, what it has done with Support. Not trinity but Tank, DPS, Heals and Support. You have options in the type of flavor or Support you want to play. Each with different specs to play different Support roles.

You will also have modern systems but not all things. No global AH but there will be markets for districts. No LFG maker but we will have LFG tools but they not in the game yet.

I'm happy and worried. Many casuels left the game for Phase 2.5. Not before expressing that the game was too hard. I agree with some feedback not not most of it. My worry with 80% of the population of any MMO is casuels, I worry Ashes may need to change some of this to be profitable. I did some research on this and almost all MMOs that are still around today had to shift focus largely Support casuel play to keep the lights on. Hope Ashes finds a balance here.
