Suggestion for Enhanced Realism & Strategy: Friendly Fire, Self-Damage, and AoE Interactions
LordKali
Dear Ashes of Creation Team / Community,
I am writing to suggest a potentially game-enhancing mechanic for spellcasting: the implementation of Friendly Fire, Self-Damage for AoE spells, and consequential AoE healing from enemies.
This idea is based on the belief that such mechanics would significantly deepen the gameplay in two key areas:
1. Increased Realism & Immersion: It feels logical that a massive fireball explosion should be dangerous to everyone, including the caster if they are too close. This makes the world feel more consistent and believable.
2. Greater Strategic Depth: These mechanics would reward careful positioning, precise aiming, and better team coordination. Players would have to think twice before casting a powerful spell in a crowded battlefield. The idea of an enemy's AoE heal accidentally benefiting our team in PvP creates unique, emergent, and memorable tactical moments.
We understand the potential challenges, such as player frustration, balancing issues, and the potential for trolling. However, these could be mitigated by implementing them in specific game modes, such as:
· Hardcore servers.
· Organized PvP battlegrounds.
· As an optional toggle for certain content.
Many successful RPGs are praised for similar mechanics, which add a layer of tactical richness. We believe Ashes of Creation could brilliantly leverage this to further stand out as a deep and engaging MMORPG.
We would love to hear the developers' thoughts on this or if it has been considered for any form of implementation.
Thank you for your time and for building such a promising world
