If we try to run Ashes on steam in linux using Proton and the Easy Anti Cheat Runtime will that result in a ban?
I must say I am extremely concerned having read through a few Linux related posts in this forum. From what I've read it seems to be a bit of a gamble as to whether you get flagged or not.
I purchased Braver of Worlds back in the kickstarter. Haven't even tried to login for quite a long time. Now AoC is coming to Steam, I am interested to login and test again.
However, I run Linux (Garuda) 🐧 EAC is supported in Linux, but it requires specific settings and config on the developer side. I do not want my account to receive a black mark against it because Intrepid have failed to properly support the Linux community. I 100% refuse to allow Windows anywhere near my hardware.
So I'd really like a definitive response from a member of staff please. Am I safe to run AoC on Linux via Steam (Proton Experimental) ? 🤔
This should be ok, I run it and did not got ban, I think there was a video where you had to install with lutrix and then bypass the launcher by calling the game .exe from Steam…. this was an issue… if you run all from steam you should be ok.
Hello, long-time Arch Linux user her. What is the current situation about this? Almost all MMOs run on Linux. As far as I know, New World also uses EAC. I also wouldn't know how to disable it, maybe through AppArmor? But I also suspect that if the launcher is now replaced by Steam, it will run.
just wanted to pop in and say that today Thursday Dec 11th, I downloaded Ashes from Steam and was able to play just fine for 5 hours with absolutely no issues. Literally just a download and play. Ashes making the move to Steam seems to be great for Linux.
Also had zero issues. Game installed and ran perfectly fine. Very smooth too, good job Intrepid 😁
I have purchased EA from Steam and it runs on linux, I am able to log into the game. I don't think it would let you log into the server if it didn't detect EAC, so i am going to guess Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime is doing its thing here. Wish we had some sort of official statement about this.
We don't expect there to be any issues caused here. I must reiterate that we do not officially support linux, however.
@Mepps much appreciated. My concern is getting suspended/banned, i have no VAC bans in my account and I want to keep it that way. I totally understand that this game does not support linux and we have to look for support in other ways.
