PvP - Marked Purple In Self Defense?

I'm trying to understand the PvP system - I was attacked by someone while questing, and I get marked as aggressive if I hit back? How am I supposed to respond to this? Let someone kill me and take my stuff in hopes that they will be punished?

Any clarification on this would be nice, seems odd to me.

If you believe you can win, you are supposed to hit back. If you don't think you can win, you should generally try to run away.

Other than that, yell for help.

If you somehow get the impression that the person is significantly stronger than you (either by hitting back but feeling like you can't win, or by them taking off way too much health in the time it takes you to run away or call for help) your best bet is to let them kill you and hope that they will be punished by whoever came to help.

If you are in an area where no one is likely to come to help, and you get killed easily, you probably shouldn't be there OR your aggressor will be punished more harshly for killng you due to the level mismatch, assuming anyone does kill them later. For this, you would have to not fight back. Hope that helps.

Feels like its discouraging fighting back, I defended myself and got nailed by an NPC guard not realizing. Which makes the comparison all too real.

You lose more stuff if you don't fight back, so it's completely up to you.

This game is about open world pvp. If you bought access w/o learning about what you were buying, and now don't like what you bought - that's on you.

All of this information was easily accessible for years.

you can’t be attacked if you’re unflagged, so unless you accidentally flagged yourself for PvP or looted a dead body and stole their stuff

You can have what ever opinion you like, you can share what ever opinion you like. Just be aware that some of us have been actively talking about this game with many thousands of people for nearly a decade at this point, and so the chances of you having a new opinion that hasn't been discussed on these forums and considered by Intrepid is essentially zero.

The only reason you have for viocing your opinion is to add your opinion to those that have already shared it - you are not going to be sharing a new opinion.
