So, my Animal Husbandry has been going very badly. The overwhelming portion (like 90%) of my processing attempts over the last week has been beasts of burden. That is not counting processing attempts where there is only one possible outcome (like crate mules).
This miserable state of affairs has introduced me to the desert that is the market for beasts of burden. There has to be a rethink on the use case for these - because at present there is no use case. Crate mules are available from day 1, they are easy to make and use and plenty of them are being produced because they are the only way to navigate animal husbandry without wiping yourself out financially. Third tier crate mules are now in game and when you can run a group of 4 or 5 of these with the same number of people you might use to run a caravan (but with less risk), who would bother with a caravan? I am seeing plenty of crate mules - but almost no caravans. So an important game mechanic has gone down the plughole along with my gold balance.
There needs to be a different use case for crate mules (only usable for certain types of crates - guild crates/white crates/ short distances/from Aven or Briarmoor/only crates of the same rarity level as the mule or lower?). Maybe they should be postponed - so that Daystriders start at Apprentice. Maybe they should be exposed to a greater degree of risk (crates could have a time limit after which the mule is exposed to pvp).
Alternatively, beasts of burden need something additional. They could be used for additional storage - either as a slower mount with extra storage or as a companion pet that gives extra storage.
Please consider some changes - it makes me sad when I have to vendor a pile of innocent beasts.
