Game Mode Options
Beekeeper
Whether it's something that's going to be an option in Ashes or not, what's your experiences with special game modes in MMOs? Specifically challenge modes like Hardcore, where upon death the character is deleted, or Ironman, where you have to do everything on your own, or Slow Mode, where all XP gain is halved, things like that. Usually, succeeding in those modes is more a matter of prestige, though may also give exclusive visual options.
Do you enjoy playing that way? Have you ever played in a game that offered these kinds of modes, and did you think the game was better for it?

Warth
i do play like that in certain games, but they do not have place in mmos.

I considered Iron Man and specifically recording the gameplay. Then I realised Ashes isn't conducive to Iron Man - everything is related to other people, you can be killed by anyone and the levelling process would take months without support.

I am not completely opposed to it in AOC, but only if it's introduced a fear years down the line and the game is successful with a thriving player base. It's usually a very niche thing to do.

The only way I can see an ironman challenge working is if they made a separate server for it at a specific time, similar to Runescape's Deadman Mode servers:

Everyone should be playing with the same ruleset. The only real deviation I could see from this is like titles for making it to certain levels without dying, or the like.
I don't really like "Achievements", and I realizes my suggestion is practically an achievement. I just always thought it would be a cool way to reward permadeath players. Every game ends up with a permadeath crowed with or without support. This is related because titles would be a possible way to reward players for playing a optional harder way, without adding difficulty modes.

That's true!
VmanGman
They have no place in MMORPGs. If players want to make those rules for themselves they can do so.
