Guilds, Community/Citizenship, Event Organizers - How Do We Maximize Our Efforts?

I am curious on what everyone is doing to build their slice of the Verra pie. The social aspect to this game will be critical. It's more than just guilds finding rival guilds or hardcore groups forming to roam pvp and slay all in sight. Ashes has the potential to bring out the very best of what MMORPGS were intended to be and it is our job to make sure this happens.

We have plenty of in game mechanics to discuss as Intrepid continues development but I feel this may be the most important (and often overlooked) aspect of AoC so late in mmo genre history. Especially considering the social aspect has devolved with many developers overlooking it as time went on. We all want and need the population to grow or Verra will indeed be empty and dominated by the largest alliances. Guilds should be nervous to piss off their citizens and citizens should look to well organized guilds to hold it together. Strong nodes *may* require a symbiotic relationship between the two.

All this being said, what are YOU doing to ensure you have AND provide an enjoyable experience? For players who have yet to find a guild, are waiting for launch, or solo players who want nothing to do with giant groups, what do you expect from guilds/alliances and from the community in game? What would make your experience better?

*Disclaimer* Please don't turn this into a guild recruitment thread. Also, I realize that sharing "internal" secrets may scare some people but I would argue that at this stage, sharing those secrets will simply help the community grow (which is a great thing!). I'm going to lay my approach out and leave nothing off the table. Use my ideas that you like and share your own.

Guild - As a guild leader I am consistently recruiting and chatting with players 1 on 1. I'm sharing AoC information all over other games, discords, and social media outlets. I'm motivating my members to participate on the forums as well as in the recruitment process. Together we will grow not just a guild but a solid community in discord and in game. I carefully selected our guild and loot rules to prevent drama and toxicity. A healthy foundation from the ground up.

Community/citizenship - From an in-game perspective. One thing I did in WOW and will continue to do in AoC is build on the community (outside of my guild) by being active in chat and adding unique types of fun whenever possible. In-game giveaways via trivia questions in a Tavern (or local chat) will definitely happen. Class officers in guild will be encouraged to help players in the community with min/maxing their class. This will be very helpful when it comes to citizens defending their node!

Event Organizers - There are endless ways to elevate the experience for you and the community in game.....it just takes an effort from individuals to organize an event. I intend to stream gameplay on twitch only during alpha I and alpha II to bring additional awareness to AoC. I honestly will probably stop after that. In game I will encourage guild members to organize local fishing events, roaming PvP and farming groups that include non guild members, hiring of mercenaries to attack/defend caravans, exploration groups early on and whatever else we can think of once we know more about the final product. The sky is the limit.

Anything we do will grow this community. Please share your thoughts.

@Jamation I appreciate you sharing! These are all really great ideas that will help develop the world around you. If we end up on the same server I would love to bring my guild to the fishing tournament!

@Vhaeyne I completely understand. We want the game to develop into something that will last us many years. If we have the potential to steer Intrepid in the right direction by bringing it up on the forums, why not? It's frustrating sometimes with some of the ideas being brought up but we gotta handle them as they come in : ).

I generally play them alone too. Only really had a negative time playing that way in WoW. Not really any other game. As long as the community is good and systems such as a certain meter are left out of the game then the community will probably be good.

@Yuyukoyay I definitely understand the bad experience in wow. I feel like the community in AoC should be much better than other mmos simply because of the way development is being handled. Not having certain meters will definitely change the overall feeling players have when raiding or looking into guilds. It will be refreshing to be able to talk about rotations and skills instead of cookie cutter specs and dps meters.

What I find really interesting are all the solo players who joined in to share but not any guild leaders or content creators. Are we afraid to share what we are doing to grow our guilds or do we really have this many mass recruit guilds who are just trying to fluff numbers and hope everything is held together on launch?

I get that this thread hasn't been up for long. My genuine hope is for EVERYONE to do well. Every guild and every player. It's inevitable that we will have struggles for land in game but building guilds organically is crucial for the longevity of the game.

Guild Leaders especially should be interested in developing everyone as it will increases the baseline knowledge and skill of their potential recruits. That will translate into less time spent bringing people up to speed and more time spent working towards node progression, raids, and pvp. Unfortunately a lot of people are competitive by nature and would rather take a loss themselves to prevent the potential gain of future competitors.

Personally, the stronger and more knowledgeable the community is as a whole at launch, the sooner we will get to experience higher levels of content. Just on the crafter's side of things, the more gatherers and processors know about the mechanics, the easier and cheaper it will be to produce goods. I think it just boils down to the difference between short-sighted mindsets and those that see the larger picture and attempt to patiently cultivate a stronger future.

@TacVik I mean.....you make perfect sense to me. It's alarming how poor the effort was from other guilds in other mmos I've played. I can't stand "flavor of the month" guilds that just have a strong core of 5-6 and then mass recruit only to fall apart a couple months later. It's detrimental to the community and makes people quit.

You also bring up a good point on artisan paths. It seems we will be diving into a REAL crafting system. It may even overwhelm a lot of guilds without that effort to organize.
