Cosmetic Costumes on Armor

Hey all,
got a question that may be obvious but I wanted some clarity on. So the cosmetic costumes unlocked from preorder packs show them on characters that are wearing Platebodies/platelegs, Robes, etc. My question is can these costumes be applied on armor of all classes, example: a ranger who wears light clothing, would he be able to apply a costume to his armor as if it were a skin? some of these costumes look like they are for designed for melee based knights/tanks, would they just be the same skin pattern but applied on ranger tunics. For example this month's cosmetic costume (Deeds of Dauntless) shows a knight wearing armor, if I were a ranger wearing this costume, would i appear as a knight when wearing the costume or would it apply its appearance on my currently equipped armor? Do these costumes replace armor that you are wearing or compliment them by giving them the art styles. if they are skins for armor, does it only count as a skin for specific armor, like a robe skin can only be worn on robes, or can robe skins be worn on melee armor etc?

Your Ranger with the Deeds of the Dauntless cosmetic would look like they are wearing plate armor.
Any class can equip any armor.
The three categories of armor are:
Light
Medium
Heavy
I think you can place plate armor cosmetics over Light Armor, but I'd have to do some more dev quote delving to be sure.
Cosmetics are just a one piece set, while gear takes up individual slots.
Cosmetics are not yet in the Alpha One Preview.
I don't think the devs have answered your question yet, but seems like there would have to be a Cosmetic slot for each category of accessory.

Since there is a system in place to identify what armor is being worn under the cosmetic, it seems that any class can wear cosmetic armor that does not match the armor being worn.
Also, this point seems relevant:
"Armor will take on a racial appearance.[91]"

The cosmetic armors may change somewhat depending on the race that is wearing it.
