Additional Uses for Ranged Combat?

Would like to know if consideration is/was ever made toward using Aim and Click (Action Combat I suppose) for ranged be used outside of combat. Like to interact with the environment in different ways. (Knocking items down from high or hard-to-access locations, Interact with buttons or levers from ranged, etc..)
