"Being in the mood to farm people for no reason at all" was usually a good enough motivator for my pvp guilds. I see flaws with this system on a large scale We don't have to agree but don't be quick to assume something can't happen just because you don't think it can. Go look at the start of any game and take note of all the loop holes found. wow uses a faction system, and fighting the other faction is part of the game story and lore. is there any penalty in wow for killing someone from the other faction? Umm, no. Not sure what you are getting at. exactly. If you're trying to make a point and the meaning doesn't land then what was the point of talking in the first place if you aren't willing to explain it? since there is no penalty in wow (and also in l2 essence), people are more likely to go on a murderfest. there will be less murderfest overall in aoc because of the penalties.

Large scale ganking needs to have enough players interested in that feature to support the maintenance of the specific game for more than a decade.

Open Seas is a permanent auto-flag PvP zone. I'm Ok with temp auto-flag PvP zones that last a few days. Easy enough to wait for that to return to normal flagging... Hmmmn. Steven says in the video it's opt-in. I wonder what he thinks opt-in means. Opt-in is different than auto-flag.

I think it's not a matter of the Corruption system not working. EvE Online is one of Steven's inspirations. You can see that in that interview where I ask him what games he counts as a murder-box. He says Ashes won't be a murder-box, but... strangely... he can't think of any previous games that he counts as a murder-box. He says he hasn't played any. When I tell him EvE is a murder-box to me, he says, "EvE is a murder-box if you choose to go to the appropriate sectors, right?" I reply, "I don't know. I'm staying away from EvE because it's too PvP-centric for me. So that's why I'm asking the question." Steven is all, "Ah... I see. (Crap! How can I spin my way out of this one!?!)"
