They do plan to update to 5.4. They have not said how they plan to use it. It's a good question.

There is a careful balance that needs to be struck between fluidity of animations and responsiveness of player input. In my opinion, inertia based movement can feel sluggish and unresponsive, even in the better implementations. It will be interesting to see the direction they take this.
