Which class has higher single-target DPS: Fighter, Ranger or Mage?

I saw a lot of mages smacking stuff pretty hard the last few weeks.

After playing this weekend, which one do you think has better single target DPS? Ranger or Mage?

By common sense it should be Rogue (melee single target) > Fighter (melee cleave) > Ranger (ranged single target) > Mage (ranged aoe). However, pure dps is only one factor, and I reckon overall class utility to be even more important.

That's a view for sure. No game ever avoided development of "meta". All balancing patches tend to do is shift the meta slightly. The best we can hope for is that the power gap between "metas" and the rest is going to be too small to matter much.
