DirectX 12 bug (Can't launch game)

edited November 2 in Alpha Two Bug Reporting
I keep getting this error: "DirectX 12 is required to run this application. Please ensure your OS and graphics card support DirectX 12 and try again."

Note, I have direct X 12, and my drivers all say they support it, I have the most recent updates from windows, and all the drivers say they have the best update.

    A Virtual Machine? Nope. I have a dell Inspiron laptop, Inspiron 16 7620 2-in-1.

Same here. "DirectX 12 is required to run this application. Please ensure your OS and graphics card support DirectX 12 and try again." I have Directx12, my graphics card is using it, everything is up to date, I even did dxdiag to make sure and still getting this error.

I am running into the same issue. I have DX12 and a graphics card using it.

-Reinstalling windows 11 to fix a possibly corrupt DirectX 12 did not work.
  • TwitchtasticaTwitchtastica Member, Alpha Two
I tried reinstalling the client after deleting everything related to intrepid/ashes. Multiple times. Cleared the caches... I'm at my wits end on this. No one seems to have a fix or even a guess as to what to do to fix this issue. When I run the DiagDX... it says that direct x is working properly. If ANYONE has any guesses on what else to try... I'm open to it.

I went in and checked, my computer's graphics card does support DirectX 12.
  • RemagenRemagen Member, Alpha Two
I too am facing the : "DirectX 12 is required to run this application. Please ensure your OS and graphics card support DirectX 12 and try again" error.

Windows 10 support DirectX 12. My processor and graphics card support it as well. Working on current graphics card driver and window patches.

Same issue. Reinstalling right now but I don't think it will fix anything

Experiencing the same issue. Pretty upsetting this has not been addressed yet by anyone from Intrepid. I paid good money for this access and can't even play day one. Absolute bullshit imo.

I just updated the launcher, and still receive the same error.
I have checked all my drivers, my graphics card, my reinstalled my OS (Windows 11 to try to fix a possible corruption there), reinstalled the game multiple times, repaired it multiple times, and searched the internet for possible solutions.
  • RemagenRemagen Member, Alpha Two
With Frost01 and everyone here. Tried various workarounds. All drivers updated. Repaired launcher. Deleted launcher and reinstalled. Still the same errors. Every indication is that I am running Directx 12 at this point. Frustrated I dropped $120 for an Alpha Key and it looks like I will be missing this weekend - and perhaps longer. Please help us out. cww0n5j7124n.png

Had this issue, what fixed it for me was to click the settings cog in the launcher, in the game section, checking the box for both gpu crash debugging and full crash dumps.

I have no idea if this is actually what fixed it but i can now move onto the next bug of there not being any servers to connect to :D ...38 mins to go

Appreciate the suggestion - however this did not fix the issue for me.

Anyone have the fix for this? Cant figure it out at all, I have tried everything people have mentioned.

Same problem i have 3070 and win 10
  • inquisitorminquisitorm Member, Alpha Two
I have DirectX 12 and Intel Iris Xe on Windows 11 and the same issue. Spending all afternoon trying to fix this hoping the best for us.
  • TwitchtasticaTwitchtastica Member, Alpha Two
I have spent so much time on this issue that its ridiculous... reinstalling, writing the code to -force-d3d12 to run with the launcher. I've tried to get help in the alpha 2 discord with no fix either. I'm so pissed off at this point because this issue is just being ignored and I'm being told "its my pc"... clearly its not with this many people having the issue. I've missed out on the last 2 alpha weekends because this is STILL an issue. Idk what else to do.
  • klaoklao Member, Alpha Two
still no official response to this error. Funny

    same issue

I have a theory, it appears a lot of these issues are with laptops. What if we go into Nvidia control panel and make the dedicated GPU the default to run for all programs?

I got some help on discord - but all I did was update my Windows 10 drivers to full completion. It hadn't update in sometime and I had to use a Windows Installation Assistant to force through the update. Not sure this helps others - but make sure you are actually all up to date on your version of Windows. GL.

Thanks for sending me the link to this thread - I'm also a laptop user with an NVIDIA GeForce 1650. DX12 is installed and supported by my OS as well. I tried your suggestion in forcing the NVIDIA graphics card on the AoC client but it did not help. I haven't tried forcing on all programmes but if you do please let us know how it goes.

I suspect your guess that it's something to do with laptops is right though unfortunately.

    Hi everyone,
I had this same problem and i fixed it going to the NVidia web site to find the driver for my graphic card. I selected the series, the model (Geforce GTx 1060) and downloaded the most recent version of the "Game Ready Driver". I installed it and fixed this issue.
