Dead but still got experience

I was in a group trying to get Bone Duster and died, while i was waiting for a cleric to revive me, during the 5 minute countdown my group still kept going and i obtained experience while a corpse.

I hope this isn't a bug, given that a successful attempt at raids and events often involves players being dead. It would be really mood killing to complete and event only to be cut off from gaining a reward just because it was a nail biter or the rez hadn't *quite* gone off yet.
