Voice Chat

Hello
I love very much MMORPG's genre , I think it will be great idea if you can add voice chat as an option for all area's of the game , it will be cool just to speak with people around the game world and it will add a layer of realism , i think chat is very old mechanic and unpractical because you know how chat works you need to stop and type and imagin you are in battle and you want to tell something to a party member or for an enemy PVP player you or even in dungeon, you just push a bottom and speaks it will be great in my opinion.

What you do if somebody starts singing near you? :)
Or starts broadcasting things just to annoy people nearby?
If there would be no corruption penalties...

Then you are in luck, since they also had that great idea years ago, and removed those pesky shittalking issues by limiting it to party, raid, and areas like tavern/inns where people will have more control over removing those that cannot control themselves to blast Baby Shark on a loop.

Yeah, it's the people that play crazy or offensive music full-blast that are the worst ones. Presumably there'll be a Voice Mute option available.

🎙️ Voice Chat in MMOs: A Game-Changer or Chaos?

I get where you’re coming from—voice chat adds immersion and makes communication faster, more fluid, and more natural than text chat. In a world as dynamic as Verra, being able to just push a button and speak would definitely enhance group coordination, PvP battles, and social interactions.

But at the same time, there’s a big reason why most MMOs don’t have full open-world voice chat:

⚠️ The Downsides of Open-World Voice Chat

🔇 Trolls & Noise Pollution – Imagine walking into a city and hearing 50 people talking at once, or worse—someone blasting music, shouting nonsense, or spamming sound effects. It quickly becomes annoying instead of immersive.

🗣️ Toxicity & Harassment – Unfortunately, open voice chat can lead to more player harassment compared to text chat. Without strict moderation, it could create a worse experience for many players.

📡 Server Performance Issues – Streaming hundreds of simultaneous voice channels in an MMO is bandwidth-intensive. Many MMOs avoid this because it reduces lag and keeps the servers stable.

✅ A Better Approach: Limited Voice Chat Zones
From what we know, Ashes of Creation is already implementing a voice chat system, but in a controlled way:

Party & Raid Chat – Allows group coordination without spamming open-world chat.
Taverns & Inns – Social hubs where players can talk freely, making them true gathering spots.
This approach keeps the realism and social interaction without turning the game into an audio nightmare.

    Final Thoughts

I love the idea of more immersive communication, but full open-world voice chat would be a mess. The controlled version that Intrepid is implementing (limited to parties, raids, and taverns) seems like a smart balance between realism and practicality.

    What do you think?
