Modern clothes and themed clothing like Xmas Easter etc in MMOs

GingishGingish Member, Alpha Two
Heya!
I would like to start a discussion about what people think about modern clothes and themed clothing like xmas and easter clothing in MMOs.

For me it is extremely annoying and takes away all the immersion of the game. People keep using those themed clothing through the whole year also so it's annoying all the time.
And some modern clothing like say "le cool sunglasses, deal with it" is super immersion breaking in my opinion.

I would not like to see stuff like this in Ashes.

What do you think?

I agree 100%. If u have to add Xmas clothes etc. at least do it with a timer that after event is over u can no longer equip those.

Too late. They have sold irl themed cosmetics in the past. They handed out a slew of Christmas hats in A2 directly from Steven, and now you can pick them up during testing from a vendor. The cosmetics were sold without some blurb of "can only be worn between X and X date." as just a couple examples. 4qb46q5a6d94.png

Rather they didn't have celibrations on Earth lore and history. I would rather see holidays based off Ashes lore.

This would be preferred since so many holiday/celebrations are usually Christian-oriented and ignore most other religions and cultural aspects.

    That's what they're doing.

Like for Halloween, we've got "Demontide", which is on the 31st of "Oleidus". They have a plan :)

How could you do real-world holidays when they are bound to seasons? Meanwhile, in Verra we swap seasons every 2 weeks. I don't think you can do something that's not celebrated yearly in game without feeling like it takes you out of Verra

Yeah not a fan of inserting Xmas/Halloween/etc. into MMOs. It's just too gimmicky for the more serious fantasy settings.

For MMOs that want to have a more light-hearted tone, pop culture references, zany humour, copious mini-games, breaking the 4th wall, etc it's not really an issue.

I totally get the concern, immersion is a huge part of what makes Ashes special, and modern or meme-style cosmetics can really clash with that.

That said, we also have to be realistic: since Ashes isn’t going to have a traditional subscription model, a strong cosmetic shop will likely be necessary to help fund ongoing development. The key, in my opinion, is keeping cosmetics lore-appropriate. You can have variety, even themed outfits, without breaking immersion, as long as they feel like they belong in Verra’s world.

Hopefully Intrepid keeps that balance: a rich cosmetic store that supports the game without turning it into a fashion meme party.
