Mount Breeding: Bad Luck or Broken System?

ImanekImanek Member, Alpha Two
I wanted to share my experience with mount breeding and get some feedback, because honestly, I’m starting to wonder if I’m just insanely unlucky… or if the system is completely broken.

I went from Novice to Apprentice without too much trouble the success rates seemed somewhat consistent. But ever since I hit Apprentice, it’s been a nightmare. Fail after fail, it’s getting ridiculous. Just today, I tried 6 mounts: 0 successes. Yesterday? 4 more attempts, again 0 success. Overall, I’m sitting at 80/90 failures for maybe 20/25 successes, and that’s just on Tier 2s.

Luckily, I had a decent stock of crocodiles stored up, so I managed to get a few successes and earn a bit of gold. But now it feels like I’m just burning 20 gold per attempt into thin air, with nothing to show for it.

I’m all for the idea of RNG, but at this point I seriously doubt the 50/50 success rate is working as intended. Either it’s bugged, the RNG is totally busted, or there’s a hidden mechanic no one is talking about. Because honestly? This is beyond frustrating it’s discouraging.

So I’m curious are other breeders seeing the same thing? Do success rates fall apart once you hit Apprentice? Or am I just the unluckiest person on the server?

Everyone in my guild who does animal husbandry says the same thing - 50/50 is bullshit.

It really seems like there's an element missing, like you'd use different fuel and materials for riding training compared to burden training. A leather saddle or a training yoke would make sense. Both can scale alongside tanning and woodworking, even into leather and carpentry. Then again, that adds more steps, more crafts, more challenge.

Would you rather do 50/50 chances or would you rather need other artisanry to provide the materials to guarantee success? Not that these are the only two options, but comparatively what is preferred?

A new breeding building is expected to arrive in the coming months. It should finally allow us to truly raise mounts, potentially with special stats or even rare and unique variants. We'll have to see how the system evolves, as things are still unclear for now.

That said, the supposed "50/50" success rate feels completely broken. I wanted to check if I’m just incredibly unlucky, or if the system itself doesn’t actually follow fair odds. Because failing repeatedly at 1.75 gold per attempt is just infuriating.

Personally, I’d much prefer a real breeding system like in BDO but even more advanced: gender mechanics, stat inheritance, and maybe even rare color patterns. But please, no more arbitrary 50/50 mechanics… especially when they don’t seem to work properly.
