Skin free Server type

I hate skins (edit: and Transmog) in MMORPGs. They destroy immersion and the credibility of the items.

Please, after the full release of Ashes, release a server type alongside normal servers where the in-game shop and all its contents are disabled. Access to such skin-free (edit: and Transmog) shop completely disabled servers would require some kind of premium (T2 subscription).

I would be willing to pay twice the monthly subscription fee for that.

I imagine it'd be a pretty lonely server.

Skin-free play makes for some pretty ugly mis-matched toons....

I don't mind both but I think a level cap on skins should be required, also it's a bit strange that the game is subscription based with so many cash shop items

I wish I had the money to pay double for this kind of server, but I'd definitely play on it if it was available.

Normally i would say something like : " An OPTION to disable or activate Shop-Transmogs being visible on other Players and/or oneself would be nice ",

but honestly this should be truly a seperate Server-Type. This is even better. Servers with Shop-Sets and Servers without. Fashion is a Choice. Or maybe simply rags and/or normal Sets.

Skins are an integral part of roleplaying for many situations, if one has issues with the immersion-break effects of specific skins, understandable, but when the purpose of it is obviously tied to some event or situation or 'role' in the world, I think it's worse to not have it.

If anything I'd be more opposed to Transmog than to good cosmetic skins, because skins are obfuscation whereas Transmog is actively misleading.

Can't say that I understand the sentiment too much, but maybe I don't have enough experiences with games where the skins are obnoxious (or the players are).
You can always have my opinions, they are On The House.

I understand your "roleplay" argument. I’ve done that myself in the past. But at some point, I also realized that if you separate the appearance from the "real" objects, the credibility and persistence of the game world suffer. For me, our roles only make sense within a believable game world. If, however, I can change my appearance arbitrarily without any "real" changes to my character, then that feels implausible to me.

Of course, in a fantasy world one could present the arbitrary changing of appearance in a believable way, but something like that wouldn’t be monetizable.

My stance on this is: game world > individual self-determination.

I definitely agree with the transmog thing. It should also be disabled on this premium server.

I agree with the notion of not liking skins in a game like this, I've stated my dislike on it a number of times on these forums.

However, I also agree with Steven's reasoning behind them, and hkw they are being implemented - given the starting point the game had with cosmetics.

My personal preference for how I'd like the entire notion of appearances done in an MMORPG is for players to have to use the model/skin of the gear they are wearing, but to have shop items that give players a pre-set pallette of colours they can use to die their gear (you could have a green/brown pallette, a red/black pallette etc). Allow players to assign any color within the palette to any color channel on their gear, or perhaps have different colors for different material types (metal portions of armor only being able to have a metallic color to then etc).

Then you make it so these items last a month, but you also special different dye pallettes every month to encourage players to not for different looks.

This isn't something that Ashes could do at this point. They have sold too many cosmetics. However, I think it would be the best way to give players agency over their appearance, but without immersion breaking situations appearing, and also while being a decent secondary revenue stream for the game in question.

The crafters are already raising hell about the stats being better than the dropped gear. cosmetic outfits in the shop will further feed their anger even further. Because cosmetic outfits have to l looks really really cool. In order for someone actually spend money on them.

But these items also piss off the adventures that far and go gather that rate of 40 people to go kill that big boss to get that super cool looking sword when I could’ve just spent five bucks at a cosmetic shop for a cooler looking sword.
Go look at bless online. Good luck at black desert look at everybody wearing cosmetic gear from shops turned into a non-original feeling type a game . I agree whenever sent if there’s shop items like wow does I will definitely not be playing long after it’s released.

But the reason why it’s being designed this way is very simple. It makes it so they can use cheap AI generated software for all the itemization. So they can focus on what the companies cares
Can you imagine telling your development team to not make the items look too cool because we have to go a lot cooler for people to buy items from the item shop so please dump it down so it’s very dull so people buy items from the item shop all those cosmetics

So they are setting up for failure imo

Thought this was old school pay for game then do 16$ month subscription. If this game is flooded with cosmetics and enchantments helps and “quality of life for $ , game will be just a new version version of BD . It’s name would be changed to “ black desert 2 ripoff

I mean Skins and Transmog and everything else in a ingame Shop.I just want "the real" look of the gear we wear.

There is tones of skins you can earn in game as well. Buy them or earn them, it will be few that will show their true gear. There will be as many to earn in game as in the cosmetics shop.

So your asking IS to have a server where a main sorce of income for the game should be totally turned off?

No skin server is a solid idea.
Your apparel and look is huge status that can be part of the end game for many/some. That has been true through many mmos. The same for mounts and housing.

However, there is such a huge Skin monetization in every game (not just mmo) that it certainly is a good company plan. Especially if you missed to some degree on your game/vision and struggle to keep a large player base. Its a good fall back/insurance.

yes, That is why access to such servers should incur additional costs like double sub fee

This idea gets worse and worse. A pay wall like that would stop many from joining even if they like no one using skins. So a server that makes less money and still needs system resources for a very small population.

But that would only be the case if such servers had such a small population that they couldn't cover the server costs. I'm willing to pay double the subscription fee for a good MMORPG. Perhaps many others feel the same way?

    A skinless server...

There could hardly be a more accurate User than Sophisticus asking for this, according to his Avatar. (lol)
