Incentives for players progressing a node
Issue
Currently, players who are leveling up a node from wilderness to village get nothing for it. If a community wants to make a node their home, and they work to level that node, a random guild can come without having put any effort and just elect a mayor and claim that node.
This means that no one is actively developing a node, but is just passively waiting for nodes to level up. There is no attachment or investment to a node (at least until level 3)
Suggestion
We need to reward players and communities for working towards progressing a node. Maybe they should have an advantage in the first elections, maybe they should have priority for buying homes in that node
Maybe this reward could come in the form of having sped up node rep progression.
I'm not sure about how to implement this, but IMO players that put effort into leveling a node should be rewarded at all levels, and a random group shouldn't be able to easily come into a node that they put 0 effort into and just take it over a community that spent their time to level it.

Do you get node currency for helping the node level up before lvl 3 tho? Do you get node rep?
I believe you only get these things once the node is level 3 and you become a citizen, which by then the node will be already lvl 3. I don't think you get anything for helping the node level up before lvl 3
Also currently voting right is rank 1 node rep, so if you compare the effort of leveling up a node to 3 to one guy in a guild getting enough currency to enter the election, I would say the ppl leveling up the node are still not rewarded enough
But even outside of that, lvl3 node takes only a few days of effort, so it's not like this newer guild would not spend several days running crates or doing quests to get enough rep on all of their members to actually win the mayorship.
And as for non-democratic elections - we know jackshit about them, so it's hard to even speculate.
This could easily be subject to change and I'd be more than fine if voting rights required more investment from players.
But also, never forget that Steven's whole approach is "risk/reward". You can "risk" it all by leveling up a node, but you're not assured a reward of mayoring it, because there's always someone out there who wants what you have. You have a higher potential for reward because you'll know when the node lvls up and you'll be immediately ready to apply for mayorship, because you've already done work for it, while any newcomer would still need to earn the rep.
That's your reward here.
