Caravan Idea: Guard Insurance

So we were talking in the Ashes forum and I had an idea, so here it is

1) destroyed caravan,
since we are testing and a rock can destroy a caravan which can devastate a player (anything losing a caravan can be devastating to a player), if a caravan gets destroyed the owner gets "destroyed caravan" item that they can then pay/put resources in to restore the exact caravan they lost. the more blinged up the caravan, the more resources are needed to restore it.

2) Guard Insurance.
At the beginning of the instance the caravan owner can say I want to put up x% of my selling for insurance. This would now start a timer that of the caravan's run that if a defender joined they would get a % of the caravan because they are defender resources. So I have a caravan and put it down, someone joins as a defender at the beginning and they stay within the caravan area for the whole time they now get paid the insurance which is a % of the selling of the goods of the caravan.
So someone starts a caravan and say does 20% of a 2G caravan. a defender joins right at the beginning and stays close to the caravan that makes it the caravan owner gets 20% deducted (so they get 1G60S) when they sell at the vendor. the defender can go to that vendor and "you defended a caravan, here is your reward" and gets 40silver.

I fully stand behind this idea!

You could use the current "Attack / Defend " event system to calculate the time spent with the caravan itself to get credited towards the limit that the Caravan owner has set, and if you then join halfway you ofcourse only get, in the example used above, 10% instead of the full 20%

You as a Defender or Guard or Retinue, whatever you end up calling it, could potencially also bring their own trade packs on their back, and ofcourse use the drop pack function once battle starts and you have to defend the main caravan!

You could also maybe make a Commission similar board, where Guards / Defenders / Retinue could sign themself and then a caravan owner could give said person a rating that would show up on this said Commission board! Giving you a reputation of your own as a Guard / Defender / Retinue

Maybe you could even look into tax-payed retinue that gets a slight cut from the taxes, as a "certified" guard/retinue, that would let the people that are more Combat focused to have something to feel entertained about when they are waiting between raiding parties

    Good day KrystalKitten,

I was present yesterday and we all talked on Discord about this subject and a lot of different ideas came to light. It was a great experience seeing so many passionate people coming together talking about ideas.

I want to touch on this subject a bit more, starting with the destroyed caravan.

A rock destroying the caravan is what is being tested in this Alpha and expect these issues to happen. I do not know if they have fixed this issue yet because they put it on the backburner or that it still exists, there is only 1 way in finding out. If you see me flying through the air by bouncing off a rock, pray for my safe landing :D . But in all seriousness, it sucks to loose everything after such a long endeavour for getting a caravan up and running. Specially early on in this stage of the game. So the solution of having an insurance could be a great idea.

You can have several insurances for example, guaranteeing either the caravan, the packages or a combination of both. A insurance can either cover 25%, 50% or 75%. But at what costs is the question. Any cost to this will decrease the amount of money you can make with a caravan run. So it can be a better risk/reward for the daredevils out there.

Guard Insurance could be a nice system. Part of it is already in place, the attacking/defending a caravan. This though isn't giving any benefit for the people helping out. This was also pointed out yesterday by a Sir that was explaining the disappointment people had, especially new players, when they finished the escort and not having anything as a reward.

What if the caravaneer has another option to get the insurance in? I rather see the insurance start when the caravan gets build and delivered. I don't know if that is what you say is "instance".

The whole money making for defending a caravan was talked about as well. To the point that most would love to see this happening. So what was discussed was the area that a player needs to stay in. Also taking into account that fights might occur outside this area of defence and put up a buffer that one can get back to the caravan to proceed to defend it without it taken out of their pay check.

Travel calculated by either time or distance. This is something that me and Wispen talked about today and see that Distance is going to be more of a hassle then time. As distance is mostly linear if you go from A to B and not taken into account height. If that system is not in place then it is far easier to calculate the travel time. Also noting that I am not a programmer, so I have no clue what that could do to the system load of the server(s) and strain toward the traffic. One lady (Sorry, didn't get the name) on Discord suggested to have this done client side.

right now the only people who can really "risk vs reward" are large guilds who can make many caravans that are of good quality and just keep getting money with barely little risk cause they can just "group up" with their PVPers and really 90% of the time, they will get to where they are going and if they dont the guild can easily replace their caravan, but for a casual, small guild just getting 1Gold can be a endeavor and these large guilds can send 1 guy to take the 1 caravan they saved for out, eliminating months of work, so its less "risk vs reward" and "too much of a risk to even engage in" which means less people are testing the system that is supposed to be "integral" to the economy of the system. even this personal back pack system I honestly haven't touched cause I really think it's very complicated and can't figure it out, even though I have seen a few people running around and would like to try.

Mainly this "broken caravan" Item would do the 1 thing that keeps casuals out of engaging in a core system and that's the ability to regain (even if it takes silver and resources) the caravan they might have spent months on or maybe they got REALLY lucky on a hunt and got an amazing BoB. yes Bigger guilds could use this to recoup their losses but to them, they barely think about this or have their own system already in place to do just that, something that small guilds/casuals can not hope to match and in this game it should come down to the player and their experiences in the world rather then LOLZERGGUILD
