Glorious Alpha Two Testers!

Alpha Two Phase III testing has begun! During this phase, our realms will be open every day, and we'll only have downtime for updates and maintenance. We'll keep everyone up-to-date about downtimes in Discord.

If you have Alpha Two, you can download the game launcher here, and we encourage you to join us on our Official Discord Server for the most up to date testing news.

First five minutes

Just got the little popup notification linking me to the forums to provide feedback and so figured I'd give you my impressions of the first five minutes, since I guess they're a pretty important five minutes for any product, so here's the notes I've been making as I go.

Firstly, the downloader works great, no problems. The installation process was quite slow and resource intensive, but we got there. Made a character, my head is enormous and childlike, there's no way to edit it, I'd rather have the hero look. The game world looks fantastic as soon as I log in. There's no setting for which monitor the game will use by default, my primary monitor is not my gaming monitor and this was a pretty common issue with games released around ten years ago but less so nowadays. I can't find a way to use my middle mouse button for keybinds, which is a bit of an issue since with dodge sprint autorun jump/climb you want 8 keys to be used strictly to control movement, 10 if someone wants to turn with the keyboard. Surely some of these could be contextualised or double presses or let me use middle mouse or really anything besides 36 ability keybinds and 8 movement keybinds and then a random bunch of keybinds on top of that. Not really interested in trying to plan a reasonable setup for that right now so logging out and will come back to it when I have time and focus to spare on setting up so I can begin playing the game.

I realise all this sounds pretty negative but I'm honestly very excited about the game and just want to provide useful feedback so that it is the best it can be.

Back to it, spent another 5 minutes trying to set up. I can't click to interact with either left or right mouse unless I unbind the primary function of that button. I can however right click to begin autoattacking, so the one thing that is contextualised is the very first thing you're asked to keybind in the action bars submenu. Besides that one function you need a separate key for every single action you want to be able to take in the game. I imagine there are improvements on the way for that at some point, but thought I'd mention it again anyway.

Second point, I think the minimum specs might be a little on the optimistic side, 12gb ram in particular does not seem close to enough. With all settings turned to absolute minimum to be safe, including resolution, the game by itself is using 15gb. The recommended specs of 16gb would possibly just about cover it if you had an extremely minimal OS. Using the settings the game recommends for me plus max draw distance takes it up to about 21gb for game+launcher, while just standing still at the spawn point with the options window open. Probably save yourself some of the cost of processing refunds from people with lower end machines if you updated your min specs page.

Further impressions after a few hours now: game is fun af. I woke up wishing I could jump straight on like a little kid at christmas. Had an issue where I was crashing every few minutes, turning the settings up a bit to run at my native monitor resolution seems to have fixed it. Could use some more storage space, not the bags, that's fine, but town storage. I'm trying to craft an apprentice pickaxe, I need copper, ash, oak, and basalt, each of which takes up 3-4 slots and each of which has 6 different rarities, for a total of up to 84 slots occupied before I know which rarity I will be able to craft if I'm aiming for something above common. The lag is unreal and the game is doa if it goes live like this. Ravens and grem teleporting around, having to dodge halfway through cast bars etc etc. Definitely the biggest problem, and I know from other games it can be a fairly intractable one.

Oh also, game was using 24gb of ram earlier. That's going to be an issue as well. Users on windows with 32gb or less will barely be able to play, if at all.
