Alt Citizenship

daveywaveydaveywavey Member, Alpha Two
I've been thinking about it, and I've decided that I don't like having all my alts forced into the same citizenship as my Main.

My alts do different things. They have different artisan professions, and different purposes. They need to be in different locations and have their individual main storages where they need them. So, it benefits them to be able to have different citizenship.

If you're worried about us being able to cast votes in too many places, just make our single Vote account-based, so we have to choose where to use it. And increase the cooldown on changing node citizenship.

But isn't it precisely because there is a benefit, that it works like this?

The game's structure isn't built to 'counter' the benefit of having Alts that get around the Fast Travel limitation. So a separate restriction was placed on them.

Obv this is just me having the knee-jerk 'forum know-it-all Econ person' reaction, so feel free to ignore it, but this doesn't really seem like something Intrepid can afford to compromise on, given their design.

I'm also not saying that there aren't designs, even within the structure they already have, that would let you do this, but those designs are, afaik, considered so unfriendly to average players that it would definitely be a hard call to make, and then involve overhauls that would put the Econ team under vastly more pressure than they already are.

Just feels like these characters have no reason to want to be a citizen of that node that they have nothing to do with. Feels unnecessary.

If they had a main account designation that gives alts less privileges for citizenship. Such as the main account gets full access to everything with voting. An alt only getting things like storage bonuses.

I like the solution. Force an account to one settlement. Simple, clean, effective. If they're all citizens and you upkeep your dues, you get 5 votes there. That's fair. No polluting other settlements. Keeps the pseudo faction lines a little more clear and supports the vassal system. Get a vassal settlement or become one, get access to other settlement perks, at least reduced fees for using the workstations.

One vote per account doesn't make much sense to me. It'd be harder to implement and muddies the faction lines. You'll be tied to multiple Node to maximize your meta desires. I think being tied to a single settlement is best, votes aside.

    It's very anti-RPG.
My alts aren't necessarily in the same clan or guild or family... or settlement.
Even in a game like NW, where all player characters are Human.

    Better Idea.

    No alts.

I mostly kid, but you must admit that you would be more invested in your character if it was the only character you could have.

    It could be a feature.

Nah, I'd get bored, fast. I like to have multiple methods if playing these kinds of games. I generally end up with at least one of every class. Sometimes I'm in the mood for killing mobs, sometimes I'm in the mood for supporting groups, sometimes I'm in the mood for just running around goofing about.

There's a different character for each mood!

    Yes and No.

Some People enjoy just a single Character. I was one of them for many Years. But some always enjoy several Characters and these People should always be taken into Account.
