Processing telling you one thing only to make a lower quality

I have been solo grinding to make a thornstrike longbow for over a month now. Almost all of my free time off work has been hopping on ashes and grinding gold and thornstrike emblems and materials. After tons of hours of work I had the resources to make an epic thornstrike longbow(because legendary as a solo is just very difficult). I got in voice chat with my crafter and we started processing everything. We got to the weeping willow boards. I had 33 legendary weeping willow and 6 epic. We saw that 3 epic could still result in the other 33 legendary turning 12 boards into legendary and left 3 other epic to be processed seperately. In the morning when we hopped back on, it had turned out epic. I had bought much of the legendary weeping willow myself. This represents approxiamately 350 gold worth of legendary materials being reduced to less than 100 just because the processing bench told us it would be legendary. This was with no processing food so it wasn't that there was a chance it would be legendary. This said legendary. I'm just very discouraged as this represents the majority of time I've spent in the game and the purchasing of all legendary braidwood, moonbell, thornstrike emblems, and legendary weeping willow now to just lose a crucial part. Please intrepid, this need to be fixed as even me, a dedicated ashes player am struggling to find the motivation to keep playing when things like this happen. I love this game and its potential to be absolutely stunning and keep up the good work.
