Steam launch questions

JeanPhilippeGungharJeanPhilippeGunghar Member, Alpha One, Alpha Two, Early Alpha Two
I'm not sure if those have been addressed, I didn't watch the livestream entirely, but does Steam launch mean Linux will be supported? 2: Will I be able eventually to link my Steam account to my AoC one or I have to start over, losing all I bought ? I don't mind paying the EA price over what I got.

Thanks to clarify !

This has no bearing on the future of Linux, and at this time you cannot link your Steam account to your Intrepid account, but we may be able to explore that down the road.

To be clear, you do *not* have to play on Steam, and can continue to play on your Intrepid account.

if i want to play on steam will i need to buy the game again ? or will people with beta keys get a steam key so we can launch the game through steam ?

    From the FAQ:

Do I have to move to Steam?

No. You are not required to move to Steam at all. Existing Intrepid Account users can continue playtesting exactly as they always have. Nothing about your current access changes. If you want to use Steam, you may add Ashes of Creation as a non-Steam title so you can launch it from your library, but to actually play through Steam, a Steam purchase is required.
In short: Steam is an option, not a requirement, and both platforms will fully support cross-play.

It's sad that we can't link our accounts to Steam, like many games do. I hope this feature becomes available over time. I know Steam takes a 30% cut, but I also understand that many people glad having everything in one gaming library, including achievements and hours played.

Yes, all beta key holders get access on Dec11

Pax Dei devs lets us link our Steam with their account since they ditched their launcher. If Mainframe is able to do that, Intrepid can do it! I would even have the EA fee paid to use it on Steam, plus linking accounts. So, they get money by letting us keep our progress and cosmetics we paid before. I wish we could keep cosmetics we previously bought, but not characters. It would be a lesser evil imo.

I did on Linux and almost got ban.

Exactly, as many other games. I hope they will give us the ability to link accounts to Steam. This isn't right to treat people who supported the project years ago during Kickstarter, A1 and A2 sales period and now want to play with old accounts on the Steam. Even if we need to buy the game on Steam again, it won't be a problem for me, but let me link it.

    This has to be reconsidered.

What about people who have funds in their Steam Wallet and would like to use them to buy the cosmetics mentioned in the latest Development Update (more revenue)? What about people who care about Steam hours played and/or show their friends what they're playing (free marketing)? What about people who would like to try to play Ashes on their Steam Deck/Machine or similar (even if it probably won't run)? What about the higher numbers in the charts of players online you will miss on (this can be very important)?

There is no way that the amount of work needed to let people who already have Alpha/Beta access to also play through Steam will add extra complexity or take much longer to do than the work to integrate and launch Ashes on Steam in the first place will, because Steam users will be forced to create an Intrepid account.

    EYKZAq4

In other words, when somebody buys the game on Steam, they will have to link their accounts and their Intrepid account will give them access to play the game; conversely, when I link my Steam account to my existing Intrepid account with Alpha 2 access, I should get a Steam game key to add Ashes to my Steam library.

Like others have said, other games in similar situations have done this in the past, you must be able to do it as well.

Unless allowing pre-Steam users to play through Steam involves a lot of extra work (which most likely isn't the case) OR Steam does not let you give keys to existing game "owners" (which I'm pretty sure it is not the case), then this is such a poor decision that it must be reconsidered sooner rather than later.

Your tags show you already own access to testing. You don't need to do anything. Once they swap over you will be able to link your account to Steam if you like, but it is not required. It doesn't gain you anything from other guidance given in other threads by Community Managers here. All it will do is add an extra button to push and having Steam running in the background. Now if you like tracking hours played from that point, it will do that. Not for anything previous to your linking. But when you need to update, it is still going to go through Intrepid's launcher. Many of the other MMOs or "games as a service" use the same model. You click play on Steam, and it loads that companies launcher, which then updates that companies client. Anyone who wants access currently, can buy the sole remaining package that gives access on the Intrepid shop for $100. After the switch to Steam when it becomes available for purchase and not wishlisting on Steam, that package will go away on the Intrepid web store, and it will only be available through Steam for $43 till Xmas, and $50 after that.

Well, it works differently in different games. Some games launched through Steam still open their own launcher, and you have to register a new account. But if here you can simply using Steam launch the launcher, enter your account login and password, and log in — then yes, it will be just like you said and what I want xD

I thought our old accounts would only be able to play with the off launcher. For example, In Albion Online, you also couldn’t link old accounts to Steam. But still, if you can please share some links where devs mentioned, that we will able link our accounts?

When you move to steam, there are some expectation from that Community if you would like it to be embraced. Steam OS support is part of that. Valve is launching a linux console as well that will very capable of running Ashes. Also making this a cheap entery to playing Ashes. I get their anti cheat software does not work on these platforms. Fact is IS needs every bit of support from Steams users. IMO unless there is some big changes, Steven does not stand a chance on that platform. I really do hope they have turned over a new leaf. Also, I hope they embrace the Steam Community. Every area of it. At this point, Stevens decision to move to Steam would be a big mistake if they're not prepared to do that. Linux gaming is part of that. Just one part.

I bought a beta II key back in 2021, will I get access when its released on stream on Dec 11th?

Yes, you will get access, but your access will be over here through the regular Intrepid launcher, not on Steam.

What the point to have 2 ways to log in ? (Both Steam and launcher at same time). Pax Dei ditched their launcher. ESo for sure use two methods to log in, but whatever you have access to your crowns, characters and so on, whatever if you log in using the launcher or Steam. I wouldn't mind if I have to pay EA access on the top of my A2 one, though.

A few weeks after release, once everyone on steam leaves the game, all the launcher people will get access to Steam and a ton of people will just switch to that, reinvigorating the game's player stats.

There's also the fact that steam get's a cut through any of the steam purchases. Especially when we go to the subscription model they will get a portio of that too so keeping hem sperate is more long term viable afaik.
