pls dont let this game be ruined by duping

Do you have systems planned or already implemented to avoid duping of items or gold?
For example a unique ID for all the items and a system that detect duplicates, kick the player and removes duplicate immediately? If that is even possible.

We don’t have a lot of info, but what we have is here:

Rather than monitor items, they’ll monitor players, to detect anomalies like duping.

If a game is contaminated by duplicated items to an extend when it is "ruined", I think it must be a symptom of a developer not caring about their own game anymore.

Using UE5 will help prevent unforced errors as opposed to developing their own engine, so good start there but still a possibility of bugs. The actual game play coding they write themselves will be the biggest problem. So many areas interact and just like monkeys writing Shakespeare, some player somewhere will find the exploit and either report it or use it. We all know the most recent example of such poor quality control so I'm sure AoC will not want anything like that to mar their launching and ensure enough beta testing.

We generally don't want to discuss the specifics of our plans when it comes to security systems as to not compromise them, but you can rest assured knowing that this is a concern and is a focus of our team as they develop the game :)

Steven wants this game to be a success not only in terms of gameplay and mechanics but also in terms of longevity so I'm sure they will pay a lot of attention to this type of systems so that it will either be impossible to dupe or it will be taken care easily when it happens.

    Hazard a guess:

No game sets out to allow duping.
All games ensure varying degrees of testing to reduce the chance.
All games are limited to the amount of testing prior to launch that can be achieved.

The more complex the game, the more likelihood of potential flaws.
The more players that play, the more chances someone will find that flaw that testing did not find.

Implementing systems to deal with it is great.

Ideally the player community themselves also develop an attitude and collective stance on duping.

Similar but different, in past clans I have been within were anti-cheating, botting and buying gold.. as were many other significant clans.. there is a power of the collective.. does not always require the GM systems to control all.

Just curious..... Are there ANY MMos that allow duping?? Like an actual mmo with a track record, not some off the wall game.

No game allows duping. It is always cheating. But it happens in plenty of games. World of Warcraft frequently has problems with it.

Generally, what happens with most games is that a new patch comes out and has some unforeseen flaw in it. Players find it and exploit it. Eventually it is discovered, either through a player reporting it, or it gets discovered somehow. The code is changed to fix that hole, and any players found to have violated it get banned.

The OP was hoping for something more proactive than that. The develops have given assurances that there will be systems intended to take care of duping issues, though as Vaknar implied it would be foolish to explain those systems in-depth. The more people know about anti-duping measures, the easier it will be to figure out a way around them.

New World has had alot of issues with duping also. Recently there was an exploit where you could just split a stack in two in the consumable slots and drag one into the other and they would both double. From what Ive heard they just locked all form of trading many hours too late and gave a bunch of people a couple days ban, and maybe 1/10 got permaban. Theyve failed to remove some duped items and are removing other items that were not duped. And I wonder what happened to the people that bought duped items for almost nothing on trade post, and their items..
Ashes of Creation is gonna be free to play too, right? So you could just have alt accounts and dupe different items on each, maybe use all duped items for crafting on one account, sell all duped items on market on another etc to try and avoid items deleted/ban. And there wouldnt really be any risk involved since you dont care about the new accounts youve created either.
I think we really need a solid system to flag duping, kick people that are flagged and remove duped items so it doesnt get out of control. Kinda like easy anti cheat for duping I guess.

No, it's not. It is a subscription-based game. There is no free trial, you have to pay $15/month to play it at all. It won't have the problems that free-to-play games have.
