Glorious Alpha Two Testers!

Alpha Two Phase III testing has begun! During this phase, our realms will be open every day, and we'll only have downtime for updates and maintenance. We'll keep everyone up-to-date about downtimes in Discord.

If you have Alpha Two, you can download the game launcher here, and we encourage you to join us on our Official Discord Server for the most up to date testing news.

No EU server for phase 3...

And it's a no go from europe here...
Bit sad to know about it only now because I took days off for it.

Sad stuff, I was very happy to be able to play the launch. Good luck america

Well, there's your problem. Never trust an Intrepid date. No matter what they say.

But yes, this is beyond shitty. Announcing this just before release FUCKING AGAIN is insane.

I wish I played on the EU server during P1, just to have a comparison point. I've seen too many people complan that ping does affect them negatively though.

you should play though. the more people from europe, the sooner you will get your EU server. If people from europe start thinking like you and not playing waiting for the EU server, then the EU server wont happen :D

110 ping is only 0.1s delay, also I don't see any Australians complaining

WoW beta servers are also only available in the US and are playable. A second server is probably not worth it, as there are too few players.
  • LudulluLudullu Member, Alpha Two
It's a balance of things. A ton of EU players refuse to play on US servers, so overall you get fewer people. So having 2 servers might get more people into the testing.

Sounds like You are addressing Entitlement - but what if those People meant do not even know that A.) a EU-Server might happen -> and B.) don't know it will increase the likelihood of it happening by swarming an US-American Server ?

    Hoooh ?

Is an EU-Server now coming to Town after all ? :sunglasses:
Or do You still mean to swarm the US-Server no matter what ? because this can be arranged. >:)

There will now be both a US and EU server for the start of Phase III. From Steven:
    Happy Saturday Glorious Testers,

As an update, we will be starting P3 off with two 24/7 realms, Shol (US East) and Lotharia (EU West). We will monitor queue times and server populations to determine if more are necessary and keep you informed through our normal communication channels. During the first few weeks of P3 start, we expect to conduct significant testing with the dynamic gridding systems in order to further harden the technology. This may result in scheduled tests where populations from both servers are asked to assist by creating characters on the opposite realms, as well as further scheduled testing in the PTR environment. With the very large update that P3 brings to Ashes, the team will be reacting quickly to issues that may be discovered in the first few weeks of P3. Please make sure to report any bugs, exploits or bad behavior so our team can identify and respond.

Updates regarding advanced download times will be given on Monday morning Pacific time.

Your help with the PTR testing over the past few months for P3 has been instrumental in addressing issues before they have a chance to reach the live testing environment. ❤️

    See you Tuesday!

On the one hand I think it shouldn't be necessary to give in to all community complaints like this. I feel like if the devs chose to prioritise dynamic gridding testing, they should have been free to encourage EU players to play on US first or wait for a few more weeks.

But on the other hand, I know that EU servers are often announced and then neglected, which becomes a self-exacerbating feedback loop where worse support leads to fewer users, leading to worse funding and worse support. So I'm glad it ended up meaning that Intrepid will continue to grow its experience in managing multiple servers and start to think about optimal solutions for the long term.

This becomes a "bit" more complex in pvp, if multiple players have high latency. Any interactions between clients with high ping are questionable. I have seen this in P2. I would hear a snipe being fired, I would do a dodge, and would see the snipe flying a second later after my dodge completed. Pretty scuffed if you ask me.

Also latency issues are just part of the problem. The main problem is the time zone differences. Unlike some mature games like Eve Online you cannot easily set time windows for sieges and similar events. You barely get the benefits of the larger population also, no wonder sweats on the official Discord kept accusing each other of "dodging pvp". When the opposition was simply sleeping or working at the time.
