Re: Dev Discussion #63 - Cutscenes
Cut scenes, are best used as iterations of what is yet to come. As such, they should include: 1. A sense of mystery. 2. A rollercoaster ride of emotion: a balance of excitement; betrayal; intrigue; comedy; tension; tragedy; merriment; suspense etc. 3. Incredible sound and music (remember George Lucas? - 50% of a movie is… -
Re: Dev Discussion #63 - Cutscenes
Having a few, high quality cutscenes is infinitely better than a larger amount of medium quality cutscenes. When my gameplay is suddenly interrupted by a cutscene, I should be thinking: "Holy shit it's a cutscene, I haven't had one of these in a while! Intrepid really went all out for this storyline!" My favorite cutscenes… -
Re: Dev Discussion #63 - Cutscenes
Cutscenes can be fine, but most MMOs do them poorly and have too many. I'd actually be fine with no cutscenes at all. I skip them in MMOs when: 1 The writing is terrible. 2 Its way too long. 3 It disrupts actually playing the video game. 4 When I already don't care about the characters involved. 5 I've already seen it.… -
Re: Dev Discussion #63 - Cutscenes
I honestly never know how to feel about cutscenes. Honestly I think they need to be saved up and rare to be actually impressive. No one likes being interrupted every 5 minutes of gameplays 2 wait through 2-3 minutes of texts or storytelling I much prefer when the story telling is passive and told through the world. A npc… -
Re: Dev Discussion #63 - Cutscenes
@Vaknar providing some examples of cutscenes I like, I really enjoy 2D cutscenes, I think these would be a great fit for AoC as they are cost-effective, a narrator and 2D artists, some VFX and good music and you can tell a great story that wouldn't make me skip They can be used as the game intro as well as telling the… -
Re: Dev Discussion #63 - Cutscenes
1: Cutscenes should be forced if you want your player base to experience them, at least for the first time though. If cutscenes are not forced than most people are going to skip your cutscenes and almost all of your story if they can. I'm a lore whore but lets be honest reading all the lore and watching all the cutscenes… -
Re: Dev Discussion #63 - Cutscenes
In order of importance to me: 1. Characters with personality 2. Well-written dialogue 3. Proper pacing. With extra attention paid to how scenes flow into each other, including the transition from gameplay scenes to cutscenes. 4. Specially animated/cinematic scenes (not all the time, but for particularly important, hype, or… -
Re: Dev Discussion #63 - Cutscenes
When it comes to cutscenes, what entices you to not skip them? Tell us about your favorites, and what makes them unique. -Different cutscenes based on dialogue with NPC or choices in the game. Its kinda like a surprise-I wanna know what I got. -Option to interfere mid scene for different outcome. -Scenes that include… -
Re: Dev Discussion #63 - Cutscenes
I assume we’re taking about in-game-engine cutscenes that occur sporadically throughout gameplay. Before I say anything else - I have to tell you that I much prefer stories to be unfolding in front of me as I’m playing my character in the game. After seeing some of the quest and story arc content shown off in the…
